Back in 1983, I bought a used 1981 Kawasaki GPz550, as a main source of transportation. I was Active Duty in the U.S. Air Force stationed a Dyess Air Force Base. Man, those were good times!

I had this exact model when I was 17, my first wreck was on it too. A guy pulled a u turn from a parked spot 20' in front of me while going about 50mph, the GPZ and me flipped completely over the car, got lucky with just a little roadrash in my 80's era shorts and a tank top,lol

Rode one off the lot new in 82 while in the Army at Ft Riley Kansas. Swapped the stock pipes for a chrome 4 into 1 Kerker header and added a single person cafe seat. Had crazy great times on that bike..

Had a KZ 550. 1980 model. Bought it used with no miles. Was all set up for racing. Aftermarket clip ons, aftermarket quarter cafe, 4 into 1s, Canadian model. Drove half way across Canada on it. Great bike.

I had th opportunity to ride one in the 80's when I owned a GS1100. I did not want to get back on the GS, this thing sliced and diced!

My brother had a GPZ 550 exactly like that one, he unfortunately had his wife on the back when a 80 year old woman sitting at a red light decided to pull out in front of him and totalled the bike and nearly killed both my brother and his wife, broke he neck however THANK GOD she was not paralyzed and they both recovered. The bike, not so lucky. But I always loved that bike, probably influenced my love of bikes along w my Dad’s Gold Wings!

I own an 82 like this one, but not near as pristine. I lusted after one when they first came out. Cruising Craig’s list one day about 10 years ago I found a non running but complete one with a bunch of extra parts. $600 bucks and I hauled it home and hid it from the wife😜. While mine is an ‘82 with the more “aerodynamic”looking body work just like this one, I like the ‘81’s style that evokes an earlier style. My bike is a small project for my retirement and I look forward to riding it and reliving my High School days. 😀

I knew a guy who had one. He rode the shit out of it, went down multiple times and then still ran when two separate crack heads were riding it around town. True Japanese quality. Sounded great with the Bassani 4 into 1

I think this is a 1982??, which is what I have. Mine doesn't have the little black paint detail on the rear of the gas tank. My one complaint is that the fairing sends a blast of air right into your face, it makes so much noise you can't hear the engine.

@@KaplanCycles Not quite original. The reason you thought it had a new screen is because the front fairing is a replacement, it is red inside where the original Kawasaki one would have been black on the inside. Beautiful bike. I fell in love with one at 17, and still have one now 41 years later.
@Onlybhstrpes10 ай бұрын
@@ajdoel you are correct... bought my first street bike back in 1982... I know every inch of that bike... fairing is aftermarket... not just the windshield. -Original fits more snug.
