I freaking love the Suzuki RM's, as well as this RMX. My favorite Suzuki RM's were from the 80's and 90's. Christie did a phenominal job on the graphics, as Always. My first 2 stroke mx dirtbike was a 1983 Suzuki RM 125 that was mint condition. I loved this bike. Bought it in 1991 for $800, from the original owner, very well cared for and documented. Suzuki makes great street and dirt bikes. Awesome Video! ML&R.
@EarthSurferUSA2 ай бұрын
That 83 RM 125 probably sold new in 83 for about $1,300.00. Bike prices went up dramatically after the imposition of the FIM (Not the AMA as reported), 1986 production rule for the USA only. The EPA forced 4-stroke also over doubled the cost of a dirt bike, and kids can't afford a new dirt bike anymore with out fairly well to do parents. Those 2 impositions in fee enterprise, have almost killed the market share the industry once enjoyed.

Man I wish you guys would dyno one of those Rmx. I have a mint super clean 95 Rmx 250. Factory claims 51 hp but I’m sure that’s at the crank. Would be cool to see what it runs at the rear wheel!
@EarthSurferUSA2 ай бұрын
First, I own a small engine water brake dyno, and there is no real calibration for them, (I calibrated mine by a manufacturer engine power claims.), and that is why we can take the same engine set up to different dynos and get different results. That is a good observation about where the power is measured from (the wheel of the crank), and for a dirt bike, 8-10% less power would be measured at the rear wheel because of drive-train friction. So if the factory claims of 51 hp at the crank is accurate, (and probably is IMO), the rear wheel power should be about 45 hp,---which is on par for a stock last 2-strokes.
@EarthSurferUSA2 ай бұрын
That RMX is not making that much power though (as the RM250 MX bike). It is a slightly de-tuned RM engine made for the woods. 45 hp at the rear wheel is very respectable for a MX 2-stroke, even today. KTM has found more with some tweaking and fuel injection, but those prices went up because of the EPA type regulations they try to match. We can and do find more power in the carbed bikes today though. But I will bet they would not be as easy to handle in tighter woods than this bike.

@EarthSurferUSA2 ай бұрын
It is the hydraulic brake like for the rear hydraulic disk brake. Is that what you are looking at? I see 2 hydraulic brake lines (front and rear), and a cable actuated clutch cable. I had this bike, and have no idea what you are talking about. Oh wait! Min 2:36. That aftermarket cable from the brake pedal to the frame. That was called "The brake snake", and was put in place to help stop ground objects from grabbing your brake pedal and bending it back. But there is way too much slack in that cable (not installed well), to do much good.

The cylinders are the same. The differences are a substantially heavier flywheel and a lighting coil. They also came.with a double-walled pipe from the factory that dulled the power down too. A performance pipe wake it up a lot.
@noreaster41942 жыл бұрын
RM cylinders 89-95 will bolt onto any year RMX. But I believe 91-95 will need the corresponding head since Suzuki switched to O-Ring head gaskets. Also you might need an RM pipe depending on what year RMX you got

Not in tight trails full of rocks and roots. I had that bike. It was terrible on a fast bumpy natural terrain practice MX track, (bad suspension for it mostly), but it was silk in the tighter nasty woods stuff. It was a de-tuend MX bike stock. But I know I could make it faster with engine mods to pretty match the RM. But to race it in MX, it also needed a longer swing arm (it has a shorter wheel base than a MX bikes), and stiffer suspension. But man--that was one great woods bike. It was the era when the Jap manufactures started de-tuning MX bikes to make a good woods bike, much like the YZ250X today. Trust me though, this bike was a better tight woods bike than the YZ250X.
