Technical information about these HD videos. In 1994, Japanese TV station NHK made an HDTV shoot of Lillehammer Olympic games, mainly Figure Skating, Short Track, Speed Skate, Opening and Closing ceremony, Ski Jump and Nordic. In Hamar Ice Rink, they used 4 Sony HDC-500 - 2 million pixels 3-CCD HDTV Camera, and two Sony HDD-1000 - 1 inch open-reel digital video recorder. They experimentally broadcasted 109.5 hours in the MUSE analog HD format via satellite during the Olympic period. Unfortunately, I couldn't watch that. In 1997, NHK broadcasted the digest of the Lillehammer Olympics for total 32 hours in the MUSE analog HD format. I recorded figure skating events with W-VHS baseband analog HD video recorder. In 2001, 2002 and 2003, NHK broadcasted another digest of the Lillehammer Olympics for total 21.5 hours on Digital HDTV satellite broadcasting with 1080i MPEG2 video format. This is little bit clear video quality than MUSE format. But fewer athletes were on aired. I have D-VHS tapes of the figure skating events. These W-VHS and D-VHS tapes have been already shared on KZbin. Please visit my channel, or search "Lillehammer mintaka" from KZbin search window. For the videos from W-VHS tapes, I use Hauppauge's HD PVR for video capture. For D-VHS tapes, digital TS data are transmitted from D-VHS tape deck to PC via IEEE1394 connection. Captured digital data are processed by ffmpeg software. In which, "yadif" filter is used for de-interlacing to 30p Progressive ("bwdif" for 60p). "hqdn3d" filter to de-noise, and at last, videos are H.264 encoded for uploading. In some videos with [4K60P] notation, "sinc" filter is used for up-scaling.

She worked her way up like any other skater. Oksana was literally an abused orphan depending solely on her coach, and still won 1993 WC and Olympic Gold. She literally didn’t even practice and instead hang out with Jeff. When it came to the Olympics she was in very bad shape. She literally missed her 3Lz-2T in the SP and stepped out of it. She put her foot down on the double flip, which is a jump even 8 year old juniors at the time could do consistently. And her skate broke loose? It was her blade shifting and her very strange lacing. It takes 4 minutes to fix a shifted blade at most, not half an hour.

Back then she was shamed for her “lack of grace and beauty” but she was always beautiful, just in a different way. She was beautiful in a mature and strong way instead of a frail and gentle way which is a lot more commendable because it shows that she isn’t favoured for being light and pretty but powerful and pretty and back then, her beauty wasn’t as commendable because the expectation wasn’t to look strong like she does but rather light and graceful, showing how purely brilliant her skating ability is

@@brittnaywarfel6198 Tonya Harding DIDN'T break anyone's legs. The assault on Nancy Kerrigan was masterminded by Tonya's moronic ex-husband and his even more moronic and delusional pal and carried out by some pals of them. Tonya Harding only pleaded guilty for "hindering the investigations"(= not telling the authorities immediately after she learned - after the assault! - that her ex-husband etc. were behind it because she was afraid of him (due to his abusiveness) and at the same time emotionally dependent of him). The "hard" evidence against Tonya Harding is actually quite shaky. If someone is interested I could give a link to some good Analysis About it. And Nancy Kerrigans leg didn't got broken. She suffered "only" bruising. Don't get me wrong: The assault was wrong and should never have happened, but Tonya is NOT as guilty as many People want her to be and it's important to get the Facts Right, IMHO.

Back then they didn't have the term "hater". Many people foolishly sympathized with Nancy Kerrigan so for some years after the incident Tonya was villanized while Nancy was idolized. Slowly as the years passed, it was revealed that Nancy isn't a nice person and fame only made her arrogant. Tonya picked up the pieces and made a new life for herself. Tonya even went on some talk show and apologized to Nancy for her ex husbands action. I heard he apologized too. Nancy refused to accept her apology on the talk show. So Tonya shook it off and moved on. Eventually she remarried, had kids and now runs her own buisness and his clearly happy despite everything she lost. She used to appear on World's Dumbest and she always looked like she was having fun. Nancy is still bitter and looks down on everyone who comes near her.

She could jump better than most girls. Hell she jumped better than most of the boys. She wasn’t afraid to go for the triples with gusto. They blasted her for not being dainty enough, they chided her for her arm positions not being elegant enough, they shunned her for not being the perfect ballerina on skates, and they made fun of her outfits which were sometimes hand sewn because unlike another famous skater of her time, she didn’t have a designer make her outfits for a hefty price tag. I enjoyed watching her skate because I never knew what she was going to do and thus she removed the predictability out of ice skating.

That’s like saying that television should thank Jack Ruby for murdering Oswald on live TV. But it’s typical that children and young people in America today are taught to defend evil and wrongdoing to no end, to show compassion for bad behavior to no end, while viciously attacking criticizing the person who did absolutely nothing wrong. It’s why you suddenly see Americans loving Tonya and hating on everyone else. People today absolutely cannot tell the difference between good and evil today, and rush to find any means necessary to defend evil. So she boosted figure skating’s popularity because everyone in America wanted to see a soap opera? Fine. It meant that drama-loving Americans got to meet and experience actual good, humble people like Gordeeva and Grinkov when the first event was the pairs. No one in other countries gave a hoot about Tonya Harding.

By the way, I have compassion for Tonya. It was the idea of her stupid husband and that stupid bouncer who did the attack. That’s almost always how women get into big trouble. She wouldn’t have done it on her own. But she knew, and everyone with a brain knows she knew. She had something in her that supported the evil. But no one today can spot it, nor do they care. +Ehsa Yep, trying to do a 3L without fully laced boots is a usually a one way ticket to a broken ankle. As it was, it still would have hurt like hell and there was just no way she could do this routine. All skaters are entitled to ask to reskate if there is an equipment failure, even Harding.

By the ‘93-94 season she had stopped training and started smoking/drinking. Only if she actually stuck to her training she could have medaled at the Olympics.

Honestly it's my opinion that even if tonya had skated flawlessly and had no errors she still would not have won because she went into the Olympics tainted with such a stigma attached to her that it sealed her fate. Had Tonya not have been involved in the Kerrigan scandal I think going into the 94 Olympics she could have had a chance to possibly medal.

@@lborohalle before the nationals in 94 which was what was key in determining who would be in the olympics team Nancy Kerrigan was attacked and hit multiple times on the knee which led to her not being able to compete. Tonya harding won and Nancy was also named to the olympics team. It was later revealed that tonya hardings husband hired a man to attack Kerrigan and implicated Tonya Harding as the mastermind behind the scheme. Whether or not Tonya was is up to speculation but there is ample evidence that she knew about the attack beforehand and did not warn kerrigan of it or inform officials and may have even given the address to nancy Kerrigans rehearsal location to the man hired to hurt her. This all came out right before the olympics and put scrutiny on harding. She eventually pled guilty in a plea bargain to hindering the kerrigan investigation and avoided jail time but was banned for lifetime from professional figure skating.

What is the actual point in making female skaters wear a skirt anyway? It just flies up as soon as you start moving, so you're essentially skating in a leotard anyway. The modern way of having female skaters wear neck to ankle unitards is much more sensible and practical

@@chooseyourpoison5105 We love women who look put together with contoured makeup, flawless hair, long eyelashes. But we hate that they take so long in the bathroom getting ready 😢 We love women looking feminine and attractive wherever they go, even for work. But we are shocked that so much of their income is dedicated to meeting society’s bs beauty expectations, and then we complain that we have to pay for dinner 😢 We bash women for being physically weaker than men, make fun of them, complain when movies have female characters take down male characters because they’re not muscular enough. But when a woman works out to be stronger we say she’s *too* muscular and we don’t like muscles on women. 😢 No it doesn’t make sense. It’s actually mind blowing. @@username-mk4qv Yes the contradictions are everywhere. I recall how tennis great Martina Navratilova was praised for her powerful serves while simultaneously sniping at the muscular arms that actually allowed her to do them. We admire gymnast Simone Biles double-double layout while mocking the four foot eight height that permits her a low enough centre of gravity to perform it. And I was only reading yesterday an interview with swimmer Hayley Lewis, where she said she was reduced to tears from mean comments in the press about her broad shoulders, while fawning over the gold medals that those same broad shoulders powered her through the water to win. The cognitive dissonance and double standards are mind boggling.
