She rotates so quickly in the air. It looks like she's got a delay when she takes off then rotates very quickly and lands. She wasn't given enough credit I think. She's actually a very beautiful skater. But this was during the time when winners are still supposed to come from US/Canada or Europe. Unless you're an American-born Asian skater, it will be hard to make a name for yourself.

I am in agreement with all that see the positives in Chen Lu’s skating, and also have to saw judging back then was incredibly biased and political. Had she been Russian or American, the color of her medal would have been at least silver, With that said, the key issues the prevented her from really breaking through the bias and the politics was the speed of her skating. She just didn’t have enough flow and her spins often travelled too much.

The judging of the ladies at this Olympics has never made sense to me. I am in agreement with the technical program standings having Kerrigan 1st, Baiul 2nd, Bonaly 3rd and Chen 4th, but the free skate is where the judging was problematic. I would have ranked the free skate as Chen 1st, Baiul 2nd, Sato 3rd, Kerrigan 4th, and Bonaly 5th. Unfortunate for Yuka that her technical program was marred by the single Lutz and a 7th place finish, which really took her out of the medal contest. My final results would have been Baiul 1st, Chen 2nd, Kerrigan 3rd, Bonaly 4th, and Sato 5th. It’s always been a mystery to me why Nancy was always so unbelievably over marked in artistic impression for her lack of expression and grace. Her skating exuded no joy and her style was always robotic.
