What's so controversial about Captain America taking drugs. The whole character exists due to someone taking experimental drugs.
@MintHunterComics3 жыл бұрын
A seriouslyyyy valid question honestly lol
@Solitaire0013 ай бұрын
Another character who uses drugs is Hourman. The original Hourman developed a drug called Miraculo that gave him the strength of 10 men for 1 hour (thus his name). Later, they did a story where they show him being a bit high while using the drug and it was also addictive. He eventually develops a non-addictive version for his son that give him the strength of 5 men for one hour. Deathstroke has an origin similar to Captain America, except the drug he took was a bit unstable and at first it varied from day to day, sometimes he'd be enhanced and at other times he'd be in a coma-like state. Eventually it stabilized and he quit the Military to become a mercenary.

I think it was originally an attempt to draw wavy hair, and has been retained since it has become a bit iconic. It's much like the # on the side of Archie's head, to indicate red hair. Something similar was used in the manga "Ranma 1/2" to indicate whether Ranma is male or female (he's under a curse that causes him to change into a girl when dowsed with cold water, hot water changes him back). Since the original manga was in black & white, the Creator put a white streak in Ranma's hair to indicate when Ranma is female. When they brought "Ranma 1/2" to anime, Ranma has red hair when female.

Both views are correct, however, women don't work to support men. If a man wants a woman, his income is going to be impacted. It's an entirely different dynamic. Any women can be independent of men and any man can certainly get along without a woman who is dependent on him.

Great video, but I question how truly controversial some of these covers are. Oh i agree with many of them! But others had a deeper reason if you read the story. The Batgirl ripping her tights (Detective 371?), was done intentionally to distract the villains so Batman could take them out easier. Not so much misogyny if it's a tactic she used successfully.

There's another character who uses her outfit to distract opponents: Phantom Lady. She wears a very skimpy costume that is very revealing to distract male opponents.

It is a standard femme fatal trope for women that a lot of people seem to overlook today. Men are dumb and easily distracted, so why not take advantage.

That Spider-Woman cover is not sexism or misogyny. It’s just gratuitous.

Exactly, saying it's "misogyny" is sexist in it of itself

This is a great list but I know of one that tops all of these. Frank Thorne’s Devil’s Angel from Eros comics in the 90s. A comic shop that sold it was accused of trafficking CP for carrying it but luckily because of the 1st amendment the case was thrown out. Frank Thorne made the final issue of the series an anti censorship comic because of the controversy

5:27 That Manara cover of Spiderwoman isn't an example of "Misogyny". He's famous for his sexy women, and let's be honest, Jessica Drew is a pretty fan-servicey character. (And there's nothing wrong with the anatomy in that image, despite it's overt sexuality.)

The whole outrage over Spider-Woman #1 is bloody f'n funny as heck! Marvel knew exactly what they were getting when they hired Milo Manara famed Italian artist of books like Trip to Tullum (with Federico Fellini), Butterscotch Corto Maltese, and more 'erotic' comix. Duuude, have you even taken the the time to ACTUALLY READ that Sensational She-Hulk 46???? If you did then you would have known that Bryne is dissing the then current trend of portraying women in comics as sexual objects...ANYONE with a 1/10th of a brain could have figured that out - buncha IGNORAMUSES! Bryne (followed by Steve Gerber) had one of the most fun comic book series of the 1980's/1990's with Sensational Shulkie. On the Wonder Woman 'bondage' tip, she was created by a dude heavily into B.D. & S. & M. (in addition to developing a 'lie detector' hence WW's lassos ability to compel one to tell the truth.

This list is the top 100 controversial comics, not what I think is controversial. So in the case of that she hulk, even though its making FUN of misogyny it was considered controversial for its portrayal nonetheless. People misunderstood the comic but nonetheless it was controversial. I'm reporting on comics that caused a lot of stink and ruffled feathers

For your consideration: Mike Allred's GRAPHIQUE MUSIQUE #2 (Slave Labor Graphics, 1990). It's known as the "Decapitation Cover" issue, which raised many eyebrows and generated a degree of controversy at the time of its release. Of course, it's become tamer through the years, and could be overlooked when measured against current standards. But it certainly was flagged in its heyday. Now that we're on the cusp of this video's anniversary, perhaps it's time for a sequel? Another controversial Hundred, assembled from new discoveries you've made with or without the input of commenters here. What do you think, James?

How? Well for starters the author, illustrator and publisher all live in the United States of America and believe it or not we have something called the First Amendment which protects our right to free speech (which includes other things such as the right to publish, read and view what they wish, etc..) regardless of its subject matter.
