The music in this movie is amazing and can we give a shout out to Cab Calloway who always seems to be forgotten when people talk about the Blues Brothers. His version of “Minnie the Moocher” is outstanding. I was a teacher and I had my class do the response in the call and response part of the Song which they loved but annoyed the other classes. I was the fun teacher all the kids wanted.

Another what woulda been an unfun fact is that Calloway had recently done a disco version of “Minnie the Moocher” that he wanted to perform on the film but thankfully Bluesier heads prevailed and he was convinced to do the classic version. Here's 2 fun facts about The Blues Brothers; #1, John Wayne's son Ethan Wayne was a stuntman in it, look at the credits at the end, under "stunts" you'll see John E Wayne (Ethan was his middle name, as there was already a John around the house he grew up being called by his middle name). #2 Sissy Spacek is also in the movie, when she was filming Coal Miners Daughter they were on the next sound stage over from the one that they were filming the interior scenes of Bobs Country Bunker in, being a fan of Aykroyd and Belushi when she heard they were in the next sound stage one day after filming scenes for her movie she went next door as an extra so she could watch them perform the theme from Rawhide and Stand By Your Man.

Minty, I was hoping you would do the Blues Brothers! James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway and John Lee Hooker's careers were all considered dead by this point, a shadow of their former popularity. They were performing to minimal audiences in tiny venues. The decision to stick to the original vision and demand all of them to appear in the movie completely resurrected their careers. They all became in-demand acts again, selling out huge venues and selling more records than they ever had before.

As a Chicagoan this is one of the movies that I still haven’t watched yet and yes I understand that’s a sin.

Great video! Kinda surprised you didnt mention any of the Maxwell Street Players as they are blues legends especially John Lee Hooker, Walter Horton, Pinetop Perkins and Luther Johnson

I've seen the Blues Brothers many time, but I just saw the extended cut for the first time a couple days ago. Didn't even know there was an extended cut.

Love that movie and the soundtrack is pure 100% awesome. Little trivia: The rocket launcher Carrie Fisher uses to blow up the building Jake and Elwood live in makes a very familiar sound only Star Wars fans will notice....enjoy!

One thing I always found weird was the soundtrack. Here in the states the soundtrack was studio reproduction of the songs. They weren't from the actual movie. Years later I learned the france blue brother soundtrack had film versions of the songs. Now you can hear all the versions of soundtracks. But, at the time I always though it was weird. Why not release one universal soundtrack

This movie was made well before the Pope started using the Popemobile.

Good Day Minty, Like your video about The Blues Brothers. Dan aykroyd and John Belushi were great at their roles. Belushi was suppose to play Peter in Ghostbusters. Steven Spielberg and Carrie Fisher to name a few. Played in The Blues Brothers movie. That is cool. I do enjoy your videos. Love your Blockbuster Video. That is neat. Have a great day. 😃

Supposedly Slimer in Ghostbusters is essentially the ghost of John Belushi...

Now, I liked Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, but still wonder how Belushi would have played the character.

Story-time; there's a long-standing legend in my family about John Belushi. Specifically, the story goes that my great-grandmother, who lived in the same neighborhood as the Belushi-brothers, used to drive them to their Sunday-school-classes when they were little kids. I like to think that it's true, and that she had a positive effect on some small part of his life, since she was always such a sweet lady. (At least as long as I knew her.) =)

One item of interest is that the scene outside of Ray's store was supposed to be taking place on a hot summer's day, with everyone dressed in light summer clothing. In reality, it was a very cold, windy day and everyone was freezing!

The pope actually was studying to be an actor before he became a priest. He had a very interesting life.

His roommate was Polish science fiction writer Stanislaw Lem (best known for Solaris). The two would often debate theology.

Even Mr.T made an uncredited part in the film as part of the crowd running around Chicago.

As did Phil Avery (Uncle Phil), he was a dancer in background in the Ray Charles scene.
