Dick Tracy is a visual masterpiece! It's a comic book movie that actually looks like it came from a comic book. Just look at the colors on the streets as the cars are driving around. Beautiful!

I Would have to agree with you, also I still have both the VHS and DVD of Dick Tracy, It was Amazing, Unbelievable, Awesome, also I have both the VHS and DVD of, Arachnophobia, DARKMAN, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, In my Opinion Who Framed Roger Rabbit was the Best Movie and Funny too, also Best Acting by the Great Christopher Lloyd, He was Amazing portraying the Bad Guy Judge Doom, Just Like He was in all the other Movies that He has been in, Like Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future Part 2 (1989). Back to the Future Part 3 (1990), Angels in the Outfield (1994), Angels in the endzone (1997), Angels in the infield (two thousand), Duck Tales the Movie Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) (he was the voice Acting the Evil Wizard Merlock), Baby Geniuses (1999), and also The Late, Great, Living Legend Bob Hoskins, He was also amazing portraying Detective Eddie Valiant, Just like He did in other movies, Like, Mermaids (1990), Balto (1995) (He was the voice acting Boris the Goose), Super Mario Bros (1993).

Both "Dick Tracy" and Burton's first Batman are 2 of the most beautiful Comic book movies ever. They are capturing PERFECTLY the whole comic book aesthetics like no other comic book movie afterwards. You can learn so much regarding use of colours when you watch Dick Tracy. This movie was simply MADE for Colour Film while still using the magnificenly beautiful lighting styles of Black and White-era movies. Film Noir in prime-colours.

This is such an underrated film. I use to read some of the comics and love the odd villians like Prune face, Big boy and Flat top. To see them on screen, was so cool as a kid and like you said the colors and vibrant sets made it come to life. I need to see this movie again. It's been years. Nice job Minty !

I sort of see it visually as the "colorful" answer to Burton's gothic Gotham City in Batman 1989. I actually really love the film, where a comic book movie wasn't afraid to acknowledge the source IS a comic book. I'd love to see you do Rocketeer.

@ Max MIller. Dick Tracy really paved the way for more stylized comic book adaptions like "Sin City". It's really great when you can bring the whole visual style into the movie as well. It feels so much more faithful and respectable towards the source. And i'm not even a comic book / visual novel fan.

When the movie came out I read an interesting article about the bright colours. Warren Beatty wanted the bright colours of the comic books. So not only did he match the colours appearing in the comics (newspaper comics),:but they were consistent throughout. What this meant was that the same blue was used throughout as were the yellows, reds, greens etc. The shades of each color remained the same throughout the movie. The yellow used in Dick Tracy’s coats and hat were the only shade of yellow used throughout,

God, I hate copyright trolls like this. It's cool that Beatty really liked Dick Tracy and championed for it. But copyright law is really broken. We need use it or lose it laws where you have to actually use it, not just cosplay as your property rights in order to keep them. Beatty isn't using the rights, so they should be released to someone who will use them, or into Public Domain where it belongs.
@Riceball01
@Riceball01 4 жыл бұрын
@Richard Honaker Because when you buy the rights to something they aren't yours forever, you have to use them or lose them. However, as the OP states, it should take more than simply dressing as a character from an IP you own for an interview to count as actually using them. People shouldn't be allowed to simply sit on the rights to something without using them simply because they don't want to actually do anything with them (besides simply owning them) nor allowing anyone else to do something with them.

I loved this movie as a kid in the 90s. I just recently watched it again, and I fell in love with i all over again. The movie seems to catch a notable amount of flack from people, but I think it's one of the few adaptations that truly feels like a comic book in motion. The cinematography and visuals are superb. Sure, the writing isn't the best ever, but I think the simplistic dialogue lends to it's early comic book feel. Plus, the excellent cast and performances sucks you into the world of these mobsters.

16:30, it was & still is a bad-ass movie! Makes sense about Bruce Campbell; he played a cameo in the before mentioned "Darkman." But at least he returned to TV as Ash from "Evil Dead." I remember back in '90 that newstands (courtesy of Chester Gould's estate) had banners celebrate Dick Tracy's 58th anniversary.

When I was a kid I had a black Dick Tracy walkie-talkie watch. I really wish I knew what happened to it because it was so cool. Personally, just like Minty, my favorite thing about the movie was the bad guys because they looked so cool. HEY MINTY!! Do Swampthing next!!

I love this fucking movie!!! I remember the whole experience. Danny's theme, Warren's acting, Madonna, the no face action figure craze to find it. Al Pacino!! He was great. No other over the top movie ever been like it except RoboCop. Too bad they didn't let Warren have his way and let him have SPX makeup. Great movie. Going to watch it again. This character is an American Icon that inspired Batman, Superman and the phantom!! Another movie some said was shit was the Shadow. A great, great movie. Have to watch it and again.

Sean Young's "falling out" with Warren Beatty was most likely that she wouldn't sleep with him. Lol.

She said in an interview that was the case. He had a history of sleeping with his leading ladies, and she wanted to be unique, and turned him down flat. He had her fired. She got paid anyway, because of her Play or Pay contract, so it didn't hamper her financially. Might have hurt her career, since he was quite influential. But she didn't seem to care.

@@TheDellaniOakes Actually the mother of the kid in the movie said Sean Young was so demanding, very difficult, and Warren had her fired.

A quietly brilliant film. Well cast, fun comic book-like plot, fitting soundtrack, surreal (but not weird or disturbing) setting and wonderful color. I also remember the Dick Tracy "twist" cones from McDonalds. Fun time to be a kid.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was really the big film for me in 1991, due to my age probably (8). T2 didn’t come onto my radar until it was out on video.

Another classic from my childhood that I still own and love on DVD to this day! This movie was a roller coaster ride of gangster action and little dramatic scenes that make for a great story. And Al Pacino progressively got more scary and unhinged as the movie went on, as if Dick Tracy was literally driving him too madness! CLASSIC!

The OST is superb. And the movie is my opinion, one of the best adaptation from a comic book. Many people didn't like it because they expected another Batman and that's not possible since both are characters quite different.
