@@xcaptainspookyx6115 Woah! Totally missed this! Sorry for being 8 months late in replying, I suppose. To try and answer your question, Darkwave is the overarching subgenre of synthwave that is, as the name implies, tonally and/or thematically "dark" or "gothic". Coldwave seems to be a term used synonymously with Darkwave, though I could be wrong. Minimal wave is typically defined by its use of analog synth that doesn't always necessarily fall under darkwave, though there are minimal wave songs/bands that could be described as such.

@@thekronossentinel7582 no worries mate. Actually over these past few months I've jumped deeper down the rabbit hole and have noticed some differences in the subgenres. I've also found some neat minimal synth compilation albums with bands from back in the 80s.

@@thekronossentinel7582 Coldwave has had two incarnations with totally different sounds. Who knows why this happens. Coldwave began as a metal, or organic instrument (guitars) crossover element with industrial dance. Sometime in the 2010's it became synonymous with minimal wave or synthwave. I dunno how or why. I've seen the genre Coldwave used in so many different ways its become as useless a label as goth, lol

I was lucky to see Minuit Machine live in London last week and it was a fantastic experience. Didn't stop dancing for a single beat (and I'm 66!)
