I don't think the issue is they took themselves too serious, even here Jake has pretty low energy and maybe they were complacent. Planet of Ice is incredibly chill - the perfect winter album. I just feel like they didn't push themselves after that.

Back then “rig rundowns” from artists weren’t as easily accessible as they are now with social media and everything we have available to us today.
