I've noticed something since the new animators joined in. The animation told the story straight to us instead of like before using references and camoes to explain or enfisize the story or main charector flaws

He takes care of injured or sick beasts.So the Thunder Bird couldn't fly so he was trying to make the trip shorter for the beast until it is fully recovered or actually make it to Arizona.So coincidentally the bird was healed and could fly back to Arizona now.Remember the chain on his leg on the movie?

The reason why they couldn't let the bird fly because 1.muggles will question why there is a bird with magic abilities 2. I'm pretty sure he would be arrested for letting it loose willingly 3. If the bird flew by itself it wouldn't even go to the location it would fly around for other thing like food and scaring people in the progress

Actually, he had to unleash the thunderbird because they had to make the normal humans forget about all that magic stuff. The thunderbird used a forgetting potion to make the rain that made everyone forget everything. There was no other way :/
