Fun Fact about Neville: in the books it is explained that his family thought he was not going to have magic and so they were trying all kinds of messed up stuff to trigger his magic. So one day his uncle dangled him out of the window and kinda FORGOT and so Neville fell, but magic children kinda have this thing were their magic shows intuitively, so instead of going SPLAT Neville bounced a while like a basketball and his family was so glad that his magic finally showed.

Fun facts about many of the injuries you covered. Warning: Text Wall of Spoilers Ahead Movie 1)Harry's scar is considered a curse scar. It was created by the Instant Death curse Voldemort tried casting on him that rebounded on Voldy. And in regards to the flying class, I'm pretty sure Madame Pomphrey, the school healer, get's ignored about her concerns all the time. She probably did suggest head gear and Madame Hooch, the flying instructor and Quidditch Referee, laughed all the way out of the hospital wing. Sounds like something that could've happened. Movie 2)The basilisk is called the King of Serpents, but looks closer to a legless lizard. It's also got the deadliest venom in the world. I don't think Harry really cared about putting pressure on the wound (he was also 12 at the time, and 12yos are notorious for their uninformed decisions) when he thought he was gonna die from the envenomation (Until Fawkes the Phoenix comes in and cries on him). A basilisk is created when a toad incubates a chicken egg. Phoenixes are also incredibly rare and afaik there's only 2 known Phoenixes in the HP universe. Fawkes, and another phoenix that's a Quidditch Team Mascot. Phoenixes are very picky on who they like, and after Dumbledore died, he left hogwarts and I don't think he was ever seen again in the books or movies. Movie 4) Harry taking Gillyweed isn't considered cheating. It was considered a legitimate method for diving through the great lake. Peter Pettigrew, the man that cut his hand off, had it replaced with a magical prosthetic by Voldemort as a reward for his loyalty Movie 5) The skiving snackboxes you saw the Weasley twins showing their classmates were supposed to be eaten in halves. One half will cause the illness, the other will fix it. I believe the fix-it halves were also usable for actual illnesses/injuries. (And Im 100% certain that this isn't the half blood prince, movie 6. The Weasley Twins, even if they hadn't dropped out, were in their last year during Harry's 5th year. They had their own shop in Movie 6 and wouldn't . Movie 6) The hand Dumbledore cut into was cursed and in the books is described as blackened and withered. The curse was supposed to kill Dumbledore instantly but he was able to stay alive long enough to have it isolated in that hand. It was still going to kill him within a year of getting it though. So, essentially, cutting into that hand was technically the least painful part for him, cuz the nerves in that hand are already dead. Movie 7) Ron got splinched, which is something that happens when Apparition isn't done properly (Teleportation) You end up leaving bits of yourself behind wherever you teleported from(usually an easy fix as long as the bits you lost are able to be found. I believe they have a whole ward dedicated to stuff like that in their hospital, St Mungo's.. Essence of Dittany is kind of a quick fix for external injuries, it'll stop the bleeding and seal up the wounds. Harry was being dumb with the dagger. That's pretty on par with him. Movie 8) I have nothing to add for this one. I'm gonna be calling Voldemort "Eel-demort" from now on tho XDDDD

Well, Harry took a bludger to the head (all thanks to Cormac McLaggen) in book 6 and came to in the hospital wing afterwards with his head wrapped in bandages, Madam Pomfrey said he had gotten a cracked skull and that she'd mended it, but was keeping him overnight for observation. Nonetheless, she doesn't make any notable objections to how dangerous Quidditch actually is (nor does anyone else, for that matter).

This was amazing thank you for typing out all my thoughts! My only addition is Bellatrix’s dagger was cursed. I’d rather not have a cursed, or more realistically poisoned blade in me. Maybe Harry thought that by removing the dark artifact dobby might be able to use his latent magic to heal himself.

Maybe a part 2 about Sirius’ death, Dumbledore’s death (and how old he was, the effects of such an old age on the body etc), Tonks possibility to change her face/hair, Moody’s eye, Sectumsempra/Endoloris, etc. Gosh, I wish I went to med school instead of Law school 😅

I think the reason Neville's injury in The Sorcerer's Stone wasn't worse is because, in canon, when he was a baby, he was dropped from a balcony to see if he had magic. He did, thankfully, but I'm guessing that's why he didn't get more hurt.

Given how advanced the medicine is for wizards vs muggles, it's likely that some of the injuries Dr Mike considers serious or even life threatening would be considered no worse than a paper cut to people who can do magic. Also, fun fact: Canonically, the "Skele-gro" Harry takes to restore the bones in his arm was invented by Linfred Potter, one of Harry's ancestors. (They actually have a family history in advanced alchemy. Their family fortune was originally established by Linfred and dramatically increased by Harry's grandfather, Fleamont, who invented an extremely popular hair management tonic.)

@Freja Lindberg isn't HP in like the 1900s? Muggle medicine is good, but it's not *wave a stick and bones mend* . It always bothered me how the Wizarding world just hid from the muggers for 0 good reason. Imaging chemistry and potions, mri diagnosis and magic healing, memory reliving for psychological purposes. The two worlds could have bettered each other immensely of they cooperated.

@@fcasias7 Yes, they would have bettered each other immensely if they cooperated, but that's a big if. The wizards could also completely destroy all Muggles if someone like Voldemort came into power, since wizards have the ability to just wave a stick at someone and that person drops dead. I believe canonically the story perpetuated by the magical community is that the Muggles began to distrust all the people who could wave sticks around and do either wonderful or terrible things at the drop of a hat, and while it was rare for witch-hunts to result in the deaths of actual witches and wizards (who could just magic themselves out of danger), the magical community decided it would be best for everyone if they secluded themselves from the Muggle world. This would lessen the odds both of the Muggles managing to successfully kill witches and wizards (especially children who have not yet learned to control their magic and thus would be more susceptible to being killed), but also reduce the needless suffering and deaths of Muggles (either at one another's hands, at the hands of said children who cannot control their magic and might accidentally kill someone in self-defense, or at the hands of a witch or wizard whose young child was killed by Muggles).
@Kratargon
@Kratargon 2 жыл бұрын
@@meridellwriter In all fairness, muggles can wave a metal stick and make wizards drop dead: Guns. They need less training, too, I’d think. I suspect a wizard-muggle war would not end in the wizard’s favor, at least in the modern era.

Very true, but would Madam Hooch have been able to identify a spinal injury? If there had been a spinal injury, which would've been likely with a fall from that height, it would've been better not to move him at all (unless of course they used magic to make sure he was kept completely still during transport). They really should have Madam Pomfrey stationed nearby during first years' flying lessons just in case. Neville was really lucky that it was just a broken wrist.

For those who don't know in the wizarding world witches and wizards have slightly different genetics and don't get hurt as easily. They evolved this way so when they duel or battle they can keep going and not get hurt as easily. The magic in their DNA helps do this.

Yup, like Neville's falling scene. In the books Neville explains that he took a really long time to show any magic (usually magical kids show it around 4-5, he was 8 or 9 IIRC), so one of his relatives _held him by the ankles outside of an upper-floor window_ to "scare his magic into action" or something. The relative got distracted and let go, and obviously a muggle child would've been crippled/killed by falling on his head from that height, but Neville's magic saved him and he just harmlessly bounced down the driveway like a pingpong ball. Child endangerment much? The books even mention that wizards often lack logical thinking because magic makes many things "just work out" without them having to think things through. It's crazy because it's magic.
