SOFT WARNING: OUR KIDS ARE PLAYING AROUND THE HOUSE WHILE MAKING THIS VIDEO SO YOU'LL HEAR THEIR VOICES IN THE BACKGROUND. HOPE YOU DON'T MIND❗
We have been using different kinds and brands of potting soil over the years for planting our vegetable seeds and we honestly like Miracle Grow. But this year we got curious of using this other brand called Fox Farm Happy Frog Potting soil and we decided to give it a try and for you to see the difference between the two. For the price, they are about the same.
Please watch the video and let us know what you think on the comment section below. Don't forget to give us thumbs up and subscribe to our channel to see more of our videos.

Hey man, I've had really good luck with mixing potting soil and coco coir 50/50. You get the nutrient benefit of soil, with the drainage of coco. Doesn't hold water for long so you can't drown your plants, and they can't starve from lack of nutrients.

Thanks for the video. I have been container growing for many years trying everything from home made super soil mixes to the cheapest of the cheap store bought potting mixes. Container plants will do well in anything regardless of price as long as the mix is light and airy and not too hot. The cheapest soils don't have a lot of nutrients so you will have to start feeding a few weeks sooner. That is the only difference. Slow release and liquid fertilizers are cheap so this is not an issue. Organic or chemical fertilizers make no difference in a container either. Even the most expensive potting mix on the planet will need to be fertilized on a schedule after 4-6 weeks in a container. Place more focus on the container size (bigger is better) rather than the potting mix. Now if you are talking raised bed where you want the soil to live and thrive from season to season build your own from scratch and amend from season to season.

Interested on a follow up now that it's been awhile. I've used both personally for different things. Quite honestly, I used miracle grow if I can't afford fox farms for whatever reason but I never tried to do a side by side. This is the first year I'm trying veggies so I am a novice in this regard. I used mainly miracle grow because I was filling a fairly large raised bed . I also had 5 large pots for the rest of the plants and used black gold for those ( I couldn't get fox farms for some reason, I don't remember why atm) . The black gold is doing much better then the miracle grow plants. I am using fox farms soil conditioner for my inground plants and fox farms fruit and veggie fertilizer which I both highly recommend.

I wouldn't recommend coco to home gardeners, I see lots of people trying to work with it, but it really only serves one purpose. It's for hydroponic growing of any type. In a home garden yard, it messes with the pH and causes problems. If you can, your best bet is to start creating mulch, I'd pick that Happy Frog over the two. Add some bone meal or CalMag , and you can really make a good long term bed. That miracle grow is basically just chemically treated pete. Once the plant uses up the nutes, you'll have a useless soil with poor ph. You'll know your results better if you watch your soil over the course of two or three years. Two raised beds or large potted plants will show you the truth.

There is clearly a difference in the 2. Happy Frog side, the plant is a rich deeper color, & there is more foliage, & no damage to leaves. The MG is lighter in color, less foliage, & leaf damage. The winner is clear with Happy Frog. (You can't simply compare based on being the same height) With that being said... Happy Growing! ✌️

I have been a "miracle go" user for years, a lot of years. But recently I bougth three bags of potting soil, very disappointng and surprized .The bag was filled with pieces bark and twigs ,very little soil . I had used it on three plants ,they started to die. After checking soil closely I saw these tiny black bugs I beliieve that's killing my plants.I don't know if they changed the way it's made? All I can say ,I won't recommend buying miracle gro to anyone.

You should have compared miracle gro raised bed mix. Raised bed mix has kelp meal, bone meal, alfalfa meal, poultry litter, sphagnum peat/coir and prosesed forest products. Much more comparable. The 2nd best is Miracle gro organics, the list on that has ingredients just as good as raised bed mix. Bad comparison man.

Happy Frog is 2.0 cu ft, Ocean Forest is 1.5. Happy Frog has an abundance of decomposing forest product in it is why it might be more. Peat is cheap and MG loaded up on it.
