I find it interesting that unlike the other Tally Hall songs that ended up in Miracle Musical (Murders, Inside the Mind of Simon, Our Lullaby,) Time Machine retained the exact same lyrics. I suppose it just worked for the album, unlike the others that needed changes.

I never noticed the contrasting lyrics between the two songs. Final version says "playing in dimension number four, I can get away to any time I like. Space-time's any time and many more" while demo 3 says "working in dimension number four, making getaway at any time I like. Any time I like forevermore". Demo 3 narrator seems like he wants to runaway and never come back to his situation while final narrator seems like he is choosing to get out instead of needing to. More lyrics changes turn the song away from what sounds like needing to escape into leavings for funsies. ("Withstanding modernity" vs "this endless modernity", "now I know the nature of no urgency" vs "now i know the nature of emergency" etc.)
