One very important thing that isn't being mentioned: the caller never mentions that the supposed miracle occured in the 9th century until it's thrown into his face. This should be the most important and extraordinary aspect of this event, as it implies the evidence of living tissue that is 1200 years old, therefore mentioned with special highlight, but he chose to ommit it. This indicates that the caller has knowledge that it may be fraudulent and it would be slightly less implausible if it occurred in the 1970's, as the way he presents this history may imply, and tried to purposely and dishonestly make the hosts go with that idea, but ended up being debunked and caught red-handed.

@andreaferrara19695 жыл бұрын
I remember watching a documentary about this where they did test a sample of The Shroud. I believe (don't quote me on the date) that it tested to about the 13th or 14th century. The criticism that I remember was that they tested the wrong spot, and it was from a repair. The other was that The Shroud was kept in a church or monastery where there was a fire. It has been speculated that this made the carbon dating of The Shroud flawed. Seems to me that this could be solved by just testing another section of the fiber that everyone can agree on isn't a part that was repaired.
@andreaferrara19695 жыл бұрын

One thing about the shroud that is certain: it was never made by being wrapped around anything. The images are like a photo, they are taken from a distance. If you were to put some colouring on your face and side of the head and wrap a cloth around the result would not be at all like the shoud's image. Also the front and back images abut directly, there is no top of head between them. It is interesting to speculate that the images were made like a photograph. Camera obscura (closed room with single light source) were known. A simple lens could have been made. Some form of light sensitive chemicals that could be fixed were not impossible. Being a shroud wrapped around a person is not what it is.

I found Professor Linori's article from 1971. He examined the sample and made some conclusions (which I'll translate below), BUT, quite honestly and professionally, refused to date it with any degree of accuracy, since he wasn't able to attribute it to a precise period. His conclusions were: 1. The meat "belongs to the myocardium" 2. The blood "was found to be real blood" 3. The meat and blood are human and belong the AB type, the same as the Holy Shroud of Turin. 4. Proteins were found to be present, in the percentage ratios which are normally found in normal fresh blood. 5. The blood had quantitative reductions of chlorides, phosphor, magnesium, potassium and chlorine, but in a way not too different from what happens with normal human blood samples after drying. 6. Calcium was remarkably increased, which is compatible with the potential contamination of the chalice with wall powder, which has a high content of calcium salts.

I always find these stories fascinating. For example, the caller seems to really believe that this event is a miracle, and yet knows very little about it, based upon what John is asking him. Even a cursory examination of this story (not from sources that would have obvious reasons to believe it true even if evidence to the contrary could be provided) shows that this reads like a legend. John made a great point about asking if there was a chain of custody to prove that this is what the priest originally held, and I don't know how you get that from something in the 9th century. Did the refrigerate it, did it just maintain this quasi living state, etc? Seems like the caller needs to exercise just a modicum of common sense questioning before this would have fallen apart.

If the biblical god had equipped, say, donkeys with a language and ability to speak it, what would they say to us? I suggest they would say: You have enslaved us. Beaten, cursed, overworked, abused, cursed us, etc. ====== If Jesus was resurrected, he had to have been brought back to life while still in the closed Joseph's tomb. But when the tomb was opened for the first and only one time, Jesus, dead or risen, was not in the tomb. This proves two happenings: 1, The tomb was opened for the first time before the third day; and then his body had been taken away by as yet unknown people. 2, Jesus body was not ever placed in Joseph's tomb. ====== We can also in perfect peace, clarity, and thinking suggest that biblical God did not have have a son; nor the need to kill or have him killed to do the following: 1, Save people [only the believers or all humans] 2, To imbue all those God chose for his with the holy spirit or the spirit 3, Perfect protection and safety for all those who believe in God 4, Forgive the sins of his people 5, Make people holy, blameless, etc. 6, Etc, etc, etc......

Oh, actually, since they asked where the allegedly host is still preserved (yes, it is a well-known relic), it is possible to see it in a church in central Italy. However, this legend dates back to the 8th century, but apparently there is no evidence of it until several centuries later (it was a rather popular subject in frescos in the Renaissance), so it is not even possible to be sure this story was not made up six or seven centuries later, when it was convenient to underline the importance of the true eucharistic meaning of Jesus' sacrifice to oppose the newly born Protestant reform.
