Everyone should have a few of these. I put one in the junk drawer one in the glove box and one in a travel kit. It's one of those things that you only use when in a serious jamb on the side of the road or something like that and it has bailed me out of a few situations. Definitely not an everyday tool or something that will replace anything else in the toolbox but if faced with a situation where you are missing the correct socket or its rounded off badly and regularly used methods are impossible this can help

I'm glad that you tested the Gator Grip. I bought one years ago when it first came out, and I still have it. some years I don't even use it. It's just a good, just in case, tool. I have even used it for weird stuff that I may run across on the job. Don't misunderstand. It's not a "go-to" tool unless I run into something weird. That means that it's a reliable alternative, but rarely ever the first thing that I try. That is unless the screw/bolt head is damaged. I say that I bought one when it was introduced way back in, I think, the 80's. I always have one in my toolbox, but the one that I have is not the first one I bought. Stuff gets lost or stolen. I've never actually damaged one, but I've never actually put one to a torture test. either. The Gator Grip has saved me a number of times.

I always seen these at my Walmart and thought it was a gimmick and would break after like 3 uses. Haha glad you reviewed it man! 🤟

Hell yes I’d use it! Instead of full socket sets for junkyard runs a couple of these would save a lot of space and weight in a toolbag! Anyone doesn’t want theirs anymore? I’LL take it!

I bought one of these years ago to do a job with a bunch of eye bolts...worked great for that purpose, but it's been sitting in my box ever since.

Only ever used it for hooks and as mentioned it’s super handy for that. Puts a smile on my face that It works so damn well for that.

Well, now I know. I've passed those things by many times, thinking "Nah, too gimicky. It can't work." But I'm going to be building a large play gym for my bird (blue and gold macaw), and a lot of hooks will be involved. This could really be a good purchase for me. I didn't dream it would stand up to the test you gave it, though.

Same as a Leatherman. When you don't have your tools with you, you're glad to have it, but it's going to be worse than the right tool every single time.

I use one with my leatherman you can not carry a bunch of sockets every day but one of these with a multi tool does well and adds greatly to the usefulness of the tool.

Thanks for the review. Was thinking about adding this to a small tool pouch I keep in my backpack, sort of an EDC toolkit. I have a full shop and a fully loaded truck, so would use real sockets if available. This would be a cheap emergency thing, so glad to see there is some functionality to it.

HI all have a question for you the manf does not recommend use with impact tools my question is a rachet socket handle is not in my home improvement tools do you think my drill driver combo handle should be fine ? Thoughts please thank you
@fxm5715 Жыл бұрын
The Gator brand is definitely a vastly superior tool to the knockoffs. I love mine. However, I only use it for quickly taking stuff apart, not for putting things together. In that role, it's great; I can quickly remove fasteners of differing shapes and sizes without having to worry about matching or swapping sockets. But for driving? Maybe for a few in a pinch, but certainly not for a job where I actually know the right size ahead of time.
@Mgoblue24863 жыл бұрын
Have used and abused mine for probably 4-5 years now...thing is still going strong. I trust it enough to keep in my Jeep toolkit which is an honor lol

it might have less wobble if it had smaller pins to allow a better wrap around bolts, that would also give more use to smaller bolts also.
@BernardManansala3 жыл бұрын
Comes in handy when you need to drive a 10mm nut onto a 10mm bolt but you only have a ONE 10mm socket.
@Justinsatiable3 жыл бұрын
For my own sanity and after splitting many boards, I decided to just always use pilot holes and the appropriate drive bit. Might require using a tool belt from time to time but it's better than splitting the wood or dropping 15 screws because they wobbled away from me.
@owenrhodes34623 жыл бұрын
I gotta get one. I always figure it was junk but at least it can take the abuse of an impact driver. My wife and I run a remodeling and handyman business, rarely do I need sockets so I don't give them the space and weight in my bags. When I do, it's always a hunt. That little guy would fit in my pouch and would probably suffice for 99.9% of my socket needs. That being said, if I worked on cars all day this thing would be stupid
@danielchrisronan22812 жыл бұрын
I was helping my buddy fix his car the other day. I busted out the gator grip just to see what he would say. He took it from my hand and threw it in the garbage himself and said, "Mechanics never even look at these things, let alone use them!"

I use to have one years ago when they first came out it held it wasn't missing over the years like you showed it does wobble it's correct I've experienced that issue myself it's good in a pinch that's it why I got it I ordered it off television is before it was in stores but when they had those infomercials I figured I got to get this thing and try it wish I still had it want missing over the years if I remember correctly it was more than $10 when I got it and you had to pay shipping and processing fee remember those days and it gave me the option to purchase another at a discounted price + an additional shipping charge and processing fee good old days of infomercials lol when I first saw the infomercial I thought it was a gimmick myself like a lot of your comments here like that ginsu knife now that was a gimmick didn't function at all the one they used for the infomercial that was made just for the commercial that's why it worked perfectly the one you got was a piece of junk could slice a piece of bread lol yeah I recommend this DIY go ahead

The tool i'd like to see. Please! Is a review/comparison. Makita came out with a sheetrock cutter sorta between a saw zall and a jigsaw , makita XDS01Z cut out tool .I do allot of patch work and use multi tool with wood bit and sawzall,roto zip. on large cut outs the sawzall has more control going over studs and wires, you know cutting on angles .what do you think? Cheers !

I've been using this "gator socket" for years with lags on the regular. It works as advertised, as long as you have the room it's great. Have never tried other brands, I'm assuming they're NOT all created equal. Tip: try to keep lag centered on the socket for best results.
@dtester4 жыл бұрын
I have one of these just in case for times I don't want to bring a whole socket set or I had no idea I might need a socket. I expect just light duty from it and I probably would just use a hand ratchet or bit screw driver.

@onebabyguerilla4 жыл бұрын
Ok so for the carpentry field these might do you some justice but I fix heavy equipment an my co worker bought one, lol that thing lasted 30 minutes before it shattered sending those little barbs everywhere. I'll just stick with the right tool for the right job, there's a good reason why tool boxes were created.....
@ToolReviewZone4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info 👊
@dtester4 жыл бұрын
I think these are handy for light duty stuff and good for "just in case" scenarios when you didn't bring a full socket set because you didn't expect to need it...but if I knew I was gonna work on something (especially serious hardware) I would stick to right tool for the right job as you said.

I actually broke 2 of these doing some work at a hospital 2 years ago ! Cool stuff, man; BUT - it's been conceived around a False Assumption = It'll be a cold day in Hell before ANY guy/tradie/toolhead wouldn't step over their own Mother for a chance to own MORE sockets, gizmos & ratchet-gadgets! Saving SPACE & WEIGHT in your toolbag!? If the thing isn't hopelessly overloaded & breaking at the seams, YOU HAVEN'T GOT ENOUGH STUFF! TOOLS + METAL = LIFE! ...epecially after the Force becomes avail with a removable-battery...
