It actually takes 10minutes to take full effect and you can even eat onions like apples,cloves of garlic like grapes and ginger like sugar cane. The powdered form doesn't have the same effect as the actual berry sort of like liquid milk and powdered milk.

The substance that causes the effect (miraculin) simply binds to taste receptors but doesn't activate the receptors for sweetness unless it is in a low pH environment. The exact mechanism is still being studied, but that's the basic effect. For all intents and purposes, your taste buds are just being activated by it just like they'd be activated by anything else that's sweet.

Yeah, the people on this show didn't understand basic chemistry. The compound has to be present in your mouth so it can react to the acidic PH of the other foods.

Toa Onua that's not how it works however, it works by reacting with receptor proteins called glycoproteins on your tongue and modifies how they receive the taste.

Actually these do work. I was completely skeptical but I did get the tablet form. You let the tablet dissolve and wait about 2-5 minutes for it to treat your entire tongue. I was able to squeeze a lemon straight into my mouth and even tried vinegar. The vinegar tasted like salty cola at first but changed into soy milk later.

May work better if fresh, but doesn't have to be. I bought a bunch of the miracle fruit tablets from some web site years back. The main thing is to cover the surface of your tongue with it and let it sit for a few seconds. I tried about 30 different things from lemons, to tomatoes, to salt, pepper, about 10 different condiments and sauces, several beers, EVEN the vinegar. I used apple cider vinegar. Tasted ok, but of course still had the acidic fumes and burn. So, it does work.

True he doesn't stand at the stoves these days but he trained with some of the finest chefs in the world for YEARS, including time in france (he's fluent in french as a result) getting his classical chops, then worked and toiled risking everything he owned ( mortgaged family home etc.) to get his first self owned restaurant to 3 Michelin stars. I see these berries everyday. they are found in Ghana - west Africa. its really miraculous, cuz after eating it, any other thing u eat tastes sweet. And most people in Ghana use them when they are on medication. even drugs like Chloroquine will taste sweet!! Miracle

They're the same. Dissolve the tablet fully in your mouth and try to coat as much of your mouth as possible -- do not chew. The effect varies from person to person, but it generally sweetens anything acidic. Strawberries are by far the best thing I had on miracle fruit.

fresh berries are the way to go i grow my own and it takes a couple minutes to kick in but last for almost an hour freezed dried berries are weak my tree has 50+ berries on it at a time year round in south florida .

My friend bought one and we ate the whole thing. Kinda tastes like banana pudding, but with just a hint of something else (something that doesn't taste so good). But overall, it wasn't bad. I'd eat another one. And I don't remember a smell when he cut it open either. Maybe if it gets really ripe it starts to stink. Who knows.
