How could the demons act on a person's consciousness, when the demons can't know a person's thoughts? As you quoted from The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, the demons act on the existing consciousness of the Jewish man. How could the demons know what the person's thoughts are?

I think the most pathetic thing about this whole relationship with God is that I have to try so hard to be saved. Been an Adventist since 2013 and been nothing but miserable. I never thought I had to be my own savior. Everything from the health message to everything else, life sucks. Gave up pork, gave up shellfish, still struggle with flash food. That's like nothing you do is ever good enough. Heterosexual male, guilty because I want to kiss her, guilty because I want to hold her hand. Going on 46 years old, no kids. Never been married. If I desire passion, I'm a bad man. There's a part of me that is fine with being burned in the end if that's what it's going to be. All I've ever done is tried. This is such a stupid relationship. I'm always the bad guy. You asked for the holy spirit's help and you're still wrong of your interpretation of scripture. I honestly never thought I had to be my own savior

That's what happens when you “try to be saved. ” Truth is, we cannot save ourselves, never. If it were possible, Jesus would not have died on the cross. It was for this very reason that Christ died, to save the helpless human race. We need to surrender our all to the Lord. We cannot afford to have one part of our life that is not surrendered to Him. Sin is like yeast, when put in a little dough of flower, it causes it to grow. Thus the need for total surrender. We have no merit in us to save ourselves. We need Jesus. He alone can save us. He alone has that power. Try Him and He will save you.

Why did Jesus listen and grant the demons their wish. It even came as a financial cost to the owner of the swine.

God will always be many steps ahead of the enemy who thought that the people would be upset with Jesus and indeed, they were. But in granting the demons their wishes, He got everyone's attention and also made them aware of the fact that the worldly possessions were more important than the deliverance of the two men. Maybe, we can also add health reasons too. On another note, once, someone who used to work with the devil told me that if you want to deliver someone who is possessed, don't just say "leave this person in the name of Jesus", but add where you want the demons to go : in the jungle, lost in the sea, or anywhere else.
