Rashid Nezhmetdinov is known as a great attacking player. But in this game, his opponent Andor Lilienthal transfers almost all his pieces to the kingside, sacrifices a piece and starts a very strong attack on Nezhmetdinov’s king. While Lilienthal’s king is safe, Nezhmetdinov’s position looks absolutely hopeless, as his king is forced to leave his castle and is surrounded by the enemy pieces. But then Nezhmetdinov’s magic begins - the queen sacrifice comes like a thunderbolt from a clear sky. The sacrifice signals the beginning of a sudden counterattack and Lilienthal’s king gets checkmated in a few moves.
