it is/ was the show standard, this shaved face and neck. The rest of the body should be covered with long hair. so this owner probably wanted his dog to look like the hairless variety. In Germany and Austria it is forbidden since about two years to shave or even cut the vibrissa, so now these dogs look different. Don't know about other countries.

Judging by the fact it’s coming off in pieces, the dog was terribly matted. Keeping them in a pony cut (short body) is a lot easier for many owners to maintain. Powderpuffs take a lot of maintenance if you choose to keep the coat long, and not everyone has the time or desire for it.

Did you see the condition of the dog? Fully matted. It could be a hairy hairless that was kept in poor conditions. Therefore it SHOULD be shaved as such.

Sure, it's pretty and all.. But can someone explain why they cut off the dogs whiskers? Is this considered normal procedure or is it actually animal cruelty?

their whiskers are not like cat whiskers, they are fine

Here in Germany cutting the whiskers is considered cruelty and is even forbidden by the animal-protection-law.

@@jesusislife9259 Your right but alot are because it's alot of grooming involved and Puffs don't have all the health issues Hairless do .My guy is a Puff and I did shave him but am letting his coat grw back in .Don't like the Pony cut on him ..

This is not a hairless dog naturally and should not be shaved as such. The Chinese Crested Powderpuff is not meant to be shaved this way!!

@@jilldeub Believe me there's alot of people who shave Puffs because of the high maintenance on a full coat .I know I have one in a full coat and he's my pet .It's just easy to maintain that's why people shave a Puff
