MoB contains a malexmale pairing. If you're offended by or scared of this then do yourself a favour and don't watch. ;)
x_X I worked sooooo hard on this one. I wanted to use this as an excuse to try out a few new things and chuck out a remake of an old video at the same time. I was a lot more adventurous with MoBs footage this time around. Its a rather dark/adult anime and so it doesn't rely on fast camera angles and frantic fight scenes to appeal to its fans. Because of this it can be really hard to make an interesting video for it. The animation itself is stunning but its just not enough by itself. It requires you to be able to see facial expressions clearly to help people understand whats going on (because the story is complex enough as it is) and so my effects were placed with that fact in mind. The video was made to really emphasise certain facial expressions or motions with the song.
I think the lyrics are absolutley perfect for these two characters. I'm increasingly tired of relationships in anime these days, with male and female its always so incredibly predictable and creators are afraid to take a leap of faith with their pairings. With male/male pairings i find it to be even more tedious because so many times you'll see the whole point to the couple is simply that they're both male. I'm not belittleing the plots or characters, its simply an observation that MoB seems to be one of very few stories out there that disregards gender to build the relationship between 'people'. Which to me, is such an interesting concept and YEARS ahead of its time.
Although i do focus on these two characters (because they're just fantastic to watch/ read about) its commendable that their unique relationship is actually not the whole point of the story and merely another interesting layer of icing of the cake that is Mirage of Blaze. It annoys me when i see people saying ''oh look, its a yaoi'' without realising exactly what yaoi translates to and without knowing anything about MoB. Its not male/male sex or fluffy boy love, its a dark, intense and sentimental story featuring a very unique and well written relationship between two men. Its a shame the anime is nowhere near on par with the novels but you wont find me complaining, im just glad it /was/ animated.
