Mirai Sentai Timeranger - Naoto Takizawa (TimeFire) Dies

The one thing that gave Naoto's death more impact than either Burai or Mikodo was that unlike those two Naoto was a true anti-hero. He wasn't evil nor did evil things for the sake of revenge or driven by a evil life force, those characters died as a sort of a old school penance to their wrong doings as villains and it's a common thing to expect in a childrens series that wrong doers of any kind can't go unpunished. What makes Naoto different was that he wasn't inherently neither good nor evil. He was a real person who had real problems, and wanting power or a position of power and the means he'll take to get it contradicted Tatsuya's ideals but followed with Tatsuya's own desire to control his own fate. Naoto's death was a result of being another cog in someone else's grand scheme, but he ultimately he still choose how to live his life. Reminds me a lot of Gai in that sense, even in death he remained more free than anyone else.

There are at least two exceptions to this rule. Shirogane/Gao Silver and Micchan/Zyuoh The World. They were also driven by some evil force, however neither of them died, unlike the previously mentioned three. You can also count Eiji Takaoka /Bouken Silver, but the guy's "evilness" was only the result of his demonic heritage.

If anyone is watching this for the first time without having watched Timeranger and is confused, the captain in the beginning foresaw a future where he became TimeFire and died in the past so the entire series he manipulates events so that Naoto becomes TimeFire and dies in his stead. Pretty fucked up that Naoto was a pawn of the future

Funnily enough, Eric was initially supposed to die - the wounds he received shielding Wes and his father from that Cyclobot’s blast would’ve been fatal. However, the writers weren’t sure if the network would allow it, so they shot two versions of the final scene where Wes says his goodbyes to the others before they head back to the future: one version with Eric present and one version without. Naturally, Fox said “no.” And thus, Eric lived.

This was the best super sentai death scene. I loved how they went back and forth between that captain (who was setting up Naoto's death so he wouldn't die himself) and Naoto rescuing the bird. That fall from the roof had to have been painful. And Tatsuya really showed emotion in reacting to his death.

But still this is the second saddest moment in super sentai history, next to burai's death. Why do the badass sentais have to be killed off? You're right..I've found out during research about Eric. The writers of PR decided to keep him alive because they didn't like how it'll end for TimeFire in the Sentai. Otherwise, they would've killed off Tommy literally as well. The Sentai series contain darker elements than PR for children to know the truths, for they mature faster..or something to that effect idk. However..I've also researched on the Sentai wiki and found out that the rangers who've died, came back for one Sentai series. I think it was Dairanger or the series before that one.

It wasn't dairanger, but I think I know what you're talking about, Abarekiller did return to life in Dekaranger vs Abaranger, and all the dead sentais were able to return to fight alongside their comrades in the super sentai war, in Gokaiger jetman tribute was the ghost of gai yuuki/Black condor, funny that the 5 of the Gokaiger could see him but Gai ikari/Gokai silver was the only one who couldn't see him, even those he was right there!

@anti4kids2000 Not really. The Sentai series in its entirety is all one universe. Certainly there are different dimensions but its all in the same timeline. Naoto never comes back to life permanently he does revive to fight Zangyack and to give Gai the Gokai Silver powers but he goes right back to being dead. I don't understand why fans keep saying there are different universes or the movies aren't canon. It's not like the Sentai travel through time/space they just walk next door.
