It's actually pretty interesting stuff! Kinda makes a good case for flip chip technology that actually changes geometry significantly so you can really get a feel for what different angles you prefer in different terrain, instead of just "longer, lower, slacker..." equals better descending.

I'd love to know about your measuring system as your approach looks like it'd be way better for getting accurate numbers from rider to rider, rather than bike size and geometry charts 🤘
@misterchow

It's similar to the way that Park Tool measures except PT uses the rear wheel against the wall. All coordinates are based on the wall and the floor. The bike is static and unloaded but at least you have a baseline.
@JesseMelamedMTB

I think it's just a more accurate reach number because it takes into account headset spacers, bar height and roll and sweep and width. All of those changes make a difference.

Sweet! Do you guys think that if you want a bike but the reach is like 5-10mm longer that your preference putting. 35 or 33 mm stem would be better or will that lose front traction? And do you have any tricks to do your wheelbase a bit longer?

@JesseMelamedMTB
@JesseMelamedMTB 3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a case of compromises, the shorter stem makes the reach better but it will bring more weight off of your front wheel and make the traction harder.

I love how some top riders know how every detail effects their bike and want to puzzle to get the absolute most of it, and then others (ie Luca Shaw) are like “As long as any bike I ride has new grips I’m happy, other than that I’m not particular about anything”

Interesting! "The bike is more proportionate to me" I highly recommend you check out Lee McCormack's book, 'Dialed'. His Rider Area Distance (RAD) measurement is a simple way to match your bike to your body proportions. It is basically your hands to your feet distance. It certainly helped me out with the way both my trail and enduro bikes handle. I really enjoy your videos!
@JesseMelamedMTB
@JesseMelamedMTB 3 жыл бұрын
I've taken a look at it but I think it failed to take into account the rideability of the bike after you get your desired RAD measurement.
@antonwest1088
@antonwest1088 2 жыл бұрын
@@JesseMelamedMTB if you then set your FC:RC ratio on top of the RAD I think it covers rideability too (hint: is 1.75 the golden ratio??)

If Miranda just wanted to increase steering responsiveness, why not increase the fork offset? Or did she also want a shorter wheelbase for better maneuverability?
@MGMAlternative
@MGMAlternative 3 жыл бұрын
I think the steeper head angle achieved two things that she wanted.
@radost0514
@radost0514 3 жыл бұрын
i think if you are on jumping 170mm fork is too much ...160 is way more than enough ..and it will have a tuch more steeper head angle so the bike will have better handling ...

So, curious what you guys think about the current state of bikes and just how slack they're getting, Enduro bikes in some cases are slacker than actual DH bikes. Wondering if it's time for the UCI to put a limit on just how slack or steep you can run in a specific discipline? To me the bikes these days are stupid slack, way slacker than pretty much 80% of riders need or can really use. When is it time to start to push the "win" back into the riders hands and away from it being about the bike and the technology?
@Vanadium
@Vanadium 3 жыл бұрын
Funny that you say that because the Norco Range, Lew Buchanan just rode won the first race in Scotland's DH nationals series. I am totally against banning this and that because it will hinder development. This is no Roadriding and I hope the UCI stays OUT of the EWS! They are NOT ruled under the UCI.
@GLOBc
@GLOBc 3 жыл бұрын
Don't need more nanny-state 'rules' the rider-bike combo will sort out what is fast or not. Look at Jack taking the EWS win on the Canyon Strive, steeper / shorter / borderline small (for his stature) than most other current 'enduro' rigs, but the rider and the bike came out on top.... 80% of riders probably have way 'too much' bike in general (not just slack) - certainly know I do - but it doesn't stop me getting out and having fun, or tinkering with settings and pretending I can tell the difference *LOL*

@@GLOBc At the first two rounds Jack ran an 180mm Zeb with an extra 15mm spacer under his head tube. That will make his bike as slack as nearly anyone’s.
@GLOBc
@GLOBc 3 жыл бұрын
@@RyanBoardman234s nearly - but at the sacrifice of other geometry - point being the strive would not be considered long/low/slack bit is still more than capable of winning with the right pilot - doesn't need any 'rules' added to do so...
@dvrgntminds
@dvrgntminds 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there needs to be any rules or limitations on geometry, every rider likes something different. My teammate and I are the same height/weight and he runs stock headangle and 180mm Zeb and really likes it- for all his own reasons. I think it’s cool that we have so many different things we can change or optimize with our set ups. It might encourage companies to add more adjustability to the frames- like reach adjust cups like DH bikes etc.
