I like how this song is less about the actual breakup and more about the tendency of our older parents to coach us into suppressing our emotions like they were taught to do.

Miranda Lambert is a force that country music cannot ignore. She has been in the shadow of her husband for awhile now and she certainly does not belong there.

Miranda Lambert was releasing records before her and Blake got married. She released her Kerosene album in 2005. She didn't marry Blake until 2009. They were dating, but I think she made a name for herself, not to mention she made her own solo albums and then formed Pistol Annie's while still carrying herself as a solo artist.

As a warning for all the women who have parents like this, don't let them make you suppress your feelings; as someone with experience in this, I completely lost my shit when it all came to the surface. Give them the ultimatum that it's either now, or when it becomes so much that you really make them look bad.
@elegantlytarnished37742 жыл бұрын
Been there, done that. My mother is exactly like the one in the song: except it isn't how _I_ look, it's how I make _her_ look. Anything I do or feel reflects badly on her. I lost my crap once after repressing it for so long and it didn't end well. She still hasn't changed, and I don't think she ever will. I relate to these lyrics so hard.

I was raised with country thanks to my Grandma Lynn, Aunt Shelly, Aunt Dawn, they really now how to have fun during hard times, my grandma has been through the ought tough times, her sister recently passed, and all of her r others passed like 4-8 years ago. My aunt Shelly is stubborn but the Big Sister I have always wanted. And last but not least, my Aunt Dawn, who knows how to be positive through everything that we all have been through. If you happen to see this one of you. I love you guys! Don't ever change!

Can we just talk about the "I wish I could be just a little less dramatic, like a Kennedy when Camelot went down in flames." Because bro, Jackie Kennedy watched her husband get his brains blown out and she just hopped on Air Force one and stood next to Johnson when he swore in with JFK's blood all up on her dress with such dignity, for real. There's a grade A woman right there. If you're gonna have a role model, let it be Jackie Kennedy.

It's's called being a psychopath. Before you get all hostile, google the clinical definition of psychopathic traits...you will see she had most if not at all. It isn't always a bad thing if channeled correctly.
@TheSwissHillbilly9 жыл бұрын
+mj carollson If you're talking about how Jackie Kennedy behaved in the immediate wake of her husband's assassination, that was probably the effects of shock. I have been in a shooting where eight people were killed and four were wounded. One of the dead was my 15-year-old son; one of the wounded was the fiancé of my middle son. Jackie's behavior that day seems normal in light of what I have experienced personally and seen in others. I'm not claiming that she wasn't actually a psychopath or sociopath, but you can't use one isolated, public display after extraordinary circumstances as proof.

People are like “don’t be sad he wasn’t worth it just get over it” and I’m like “BITCH HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT???” You are not in a position to tell someone else they need to get over it. It’s THEIR breakup and everyone takes it differently. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

@@emily7087 So is a man. But if you are that emotional it don't matter if you are a man or a woman, in that moment you probably don't care about the judging at all and thats okay. Even if you don't act like an adult and more like an angry five-year-old - a bad break-up is a really good reason to be emotional, and everybody understands that, but everybody judge because even if you understand it, it is a little weird to look at it if you don't feel the same. Sorry about my english.

I think girls/ women are more independent today but an unexpected break up is still painful. I do know I've screamed a guys name until the neighbors actually called the cops. At that moment I was numbing the pain at the expence of my liver. Not too many years ago I also got the best revenge when a guy cheated. I'll take that one to my grave. This song is the story of my life except I'm from New England.

Miranda is literally the only modern country artist I listen to. I listen to Jolene sometimes and a few Johnny Cash songs and that’s it as far as county music of any kind, except for Miranda Lambert. She has such a raw emotional power to her singing and her lyrics are so brutally honest. When I listen to her songs I feel that rebellious spirit that I think country music was originally supposed to have. Also the set design, costumes and makeup, and cinematography in this video are absolutely amazing. Those shots in the bathtub are breathtaking.
