You've brightened my Thursday evening with this peaceful video packed with pretty stationery, yummy cake and calming, happy reading. I started on The Nonesuch yesterday evening and my next book in the Seven Sisters series has arrived so I will have that on the go too, plus I began Elizabeth Goudge's 'Bird in the Tree', I've only read a few pages but I am loving her writing, such beautiful descriptions of places I know quite well. I have a few Laura Wood titles (all recommended by you) and will definitely get The Agency for Scandal at some point. Thanks for all your hard work.

Dearest Miranda, I am watching this on a very gloomy Friday afternoon so the sight of so many blooms is so uplifting. I love seeing the posy of snowdrops in your home and that gorgeous bouquet of crocuses (I think?) in your room. It is like a bowl of sunshine! I enjoy the updates on what your reading for the week. I am so excited to get to Laura Wood's book, did you hear another in the series is imminent? The nature books you displayed are so inspiring as well. I do love hearing your mum's reading selections for the month also. Thank you for your uplifting, warm content during what has been another week of darkness and devastating news in our world. I agree with fellow subscribers that your videos are a balm to all of that xxx

Hello Miranda, I just re read my comment and realized I didn’t clarify my comparison...JC was one of the first in America to inspire people to cook food they would usually get from a restaurant... and even though books has always been a love of mine, you introduced me to authors and terms that I never used before your channel like “inter war years” and nature reading.....D.E. Stevenson, Rosemunde Pilcher and Penelope Lively.... I could go on 😊I was just a straight up fiction kind of girl..Have a Great Weekend 🥰

Hi Miranda, that was a lovely piano movement at the introduction to your video. It sounds so familiar but I just can't remember it's title. I ordered the book 'Another Year of Wonder' from Blackwell and it came yesterday. It is a lovely book and I'm looking forward each day to read the notes for that day and to listen to the music. It is a good start to the day. Thank you for recommending it. The cake looked lovely. For long bakes, Miranda, can I recommend that you double line the tin with baking parchment and also line the base of the tin. This helps to reduce caramelisation of the sugar in the batter through contact with the metal surfaces of the baking tin. Paul and Moira.

You are just killing me.....I am looking out my window at the fourth snowstorm in two weeks. Last week we lived through two days of minus 40 degrees Celsius with a nice two-foot accumulation of snow that crashed through the roof of our gazebo. No snowdrops or crocuses for us till late April or even May! Winter is just gearing up here in Canada; spring is but a dream. Enjoy your early spring!

I have The Queen of the Tea Towel book. I'm a child of the 70s and I remember my mother having some of these tea towels. EB have produced two of the cut and sew tea towels - a blue starry cat previously and recently a hen. I've also made the hen into a cushion like the cat - it's a tea cosy I think, but probably too large for my needs. I too love Timperley rhubarb, and your cake looked delicious! I would recommend a collar of baking paper tied high around the tin to protect the top, as foil will conduct the heat. Also Lakeland make a 'baking belt' which goes around a tin to protect the sides of a cake that needs a long bake. I loved hearing about your latest reads - also thank you for recommending The Reunion recently - such a great book that I had never heard of, even though it is over sixty years old (I took your advice not to read the introduction until after the book, and I thank you for it). 📚

Hi Miranda and Donna, Another very enjoyable vlog!! I have come to love your Thursday vlogs with its cozy atmosphere. As I have mentioned before, I don't like rhubarb but my husband does. However thus cake looks so delicious that I am thinking I might try it when our rhubarb is in season. You introduced me to DE Lawrence and the Miss Buncle books through the Comfort Book Club. I have the next downloaded to listen to as I stitch on my sampler. For me it is also only Yorkshire tea with milk. I first had it as a young women while visiting my Yorkshire Mum who is actually my mother's 75 year long pen pal. They started writing just after WWll as a school project for little girls in elementary school. Wishing you both a wonderful week!

Thank you Miranda, for another beautiful vlog. So much inspiration as always. When you were looking for a poem about snowdrops, I immediately thought of the quote I had read on 7th February by Rev C.A. Johns in Nature Writing for Every Day of the Year: "Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis). Too well known to need any description" It made me laugh ,but also feel a little sad that the good Reverend had taken such a beautiful flower so much for granted!. Thanks to your sharing your inspirational reading habits, I now have Nature Writing for Every Day of the Year on my bedside table, and read the day's entry before going to sleep, along with that day's poem from "A Nature Poem for Every Winter Evening". I am finding the habit most enriching, and am excited to receive "A Nature Poem for Every Spring Evening" which I have ordered. I am still reading 'Wintercombe' and greatly enjoying it. I think all the sequels are now sold out on second hand book sites, no doubt thanks to your recommendations! Perhaps they will be available on Audible, I really want to know 'what happens next'. Finally (and apologies for this lengthy comment), I also have A Table Full of Love, and am thrilled with it - it already feels like an old friend and I can tell its going to become a firm favorite. My husband loves rhubarb, so may well be in receipt of that cake (maybe a half size version!) for Valentines Day. Your tea party with your lovely mum made me feel I was sitting beside you both at the table, eating cake & talking about books. So wonderful. Thank you both so much for the inspiration and friendship your lovely channel provides. ❤️

Hello, new viewer from Florida, US. I am so jealous of the snowdrops; I wish I could grow them here, hahaha (sadly it's just too warm). I love your vlogs & have found several new books to try, including The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, which sounded like so much fun I immediately downloaded a sample. Oh my gosh, the first chapter is soooo funny! I hope the entire book is as good - quirky and silly and a bit nutty, but in the best possible way. Hi Miranda, thank you for another wonderful video! Watching your videos is the most relaxing part of my day. I am wondering if you could share the link to the gold metal book shelf that you have sitting next to you in the video, I would love to have one. Thank you so much for sharing your books and recipes, I absolutely love your videos!

I think you'd really enjoy fantasy books. That teapot is especially beautiful. So enjoyable to watch a kindred spirit, especially our shared love of our moms. I am drawn to so many of your interests. My favorite sweater of yours (the dark brown one) always looks so lovely on you.

Thank you! I actually have read enough fantasy to know it's not a favourite genre, but I do occasionally enjoy some fantasy, and I'm really liking Daughter of the Moon Goddess! xxx

@@MirandaMills I can't decide on one favorite book genre but I can choose my favorite fantasy book which is The Sword of Kaigen, high focus on a mother's love & sacrifice. Wondering if you've read it and your opinion.

Dear Miranda, again so beautiful and inspiring. As you like snowdrops very much I wonder if you know the beautiful Story The Snowdrop written by Hans Christian Andersen? The symbol of renewal and hope ist touching. Your rhubarb cake looked so lovely. Did I understand you correctly, that the harvest for it is in February. Have a nice Sunday 💁🏻‍♀️ Irmgard

Thank you, dear Miranda. You have introduced me to authors and books that I did not know and enticed me to purchase far too many books from Blackwells when I couldn't find them at my library, or more often were impatient to wait my turn to get! Today, we have glorious sunshine in western Oregon so that is truly a gift since we tend more towards the gray and wet during winter. I just finished Katharine May's book "Wintering" and Viola Ship man's book "A Walk in Winter" which were just wonderful, and in May's book, very thought provoking as well. I took many notes from May's book and am on hold for a couple more she wrote. Shipman is one I always enjoy. I, too, appreciate the work you put into these blogs and you are in my calendar twice a week now🌹

Hello Miranda! Well, I'm amongst those you can only leave a comment and a thumbs up but just wanted you to know that your vlogs are one of the few things that I'm enjoying around this time of year. They give such level of comfort and visual pleasure to my otherwise dull and isolating summer. I'm looking forward to pleasant autumn weather just as much as you long for spring over there! I've already started reading 'All sorts of lives', and as I knew - know- nothing about Mansfield I'm googling a bit as I go along, to have some background. I would love to read her diary, letters and miscelanea too, to have a more clear, direct picture of who she was. Again, thank yor for filming these very inspiring videos. You are outdoing yourself with each one. Lots of love, see you on Sunday! xx

Spring flowers always bring a smile. I used to look forward to finding them back home in the woods next to my house. Snowdrops are especially beautiful. We didnt have those, but we had lilacs and lily of the valley ( my birth month flower). But our spring didnt start til end of March or April. Anyways, loved the vlog. You made my mouth water again with the cake. It seems to be a reoccurring theme with me. So I'm off to eat lunch. 😂. Man o man, I wish I could browse your bookshelves. They are just chock full of treasures. 📚👍🤗💕💕

Always love to see/hear what you're reading and baking for the week, Miranda! My copy of The Whispering Muse arrived today along with a couple middle grade reads (2nd book in the Pages &Co series and A Drowned Maiden's Hair by Laura Amy Schlitz) and The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter. Like you, I don't read a lot of fantasy, but lately I've been in the mood for fairy tales and retellings. Something about Winter and Valentine's Day that fosters that magical sort of mood haha 💜

Watching the footage of the snowdrops and crocuses with the beautiful music filled my heart with hope and left me with a feeling of peace. The table setting for your tea was so pretty and the rhubarb and almond cake looked fantastic. Will have to attempt it once rhubarb is in season here and am thinking it will be prefect with my cup of morning coffee and a good book. 💕

I am on a hold for The Nonesuch. The library says it could be a 2 week wait but I am first on the wait list. I have never read it so hopefully whoever has it will return it early so I can get it read before the end of the month and the Comfort Book Club discussion.

It's still deep winter here, though thankfully warmer than last weekend when we set records for cold (-41 F when the wind woke me last Friday night). I'll look forward to this cake when rhubarb makes it's appearance (a couple months out still!) here. I did make the citrus poppy seed cake, and the apple celeriac soup this week, both tasty. Thank you for the lightness and joy you bring.
