I filmed a version of this dance, "lhao Salto ao Castelo" ,("The Taking of the Castle") performed by Grupo Folclorico Mirandes de Duas Igrejas - Pau iliteiros de Miranda (men) from Duas Igrejas from the region of Miranda in Northeastern Portugal on 07/08/1976 at The Mall, Washington, DC, USA. I was told it commemorates a successful siege in Portuguese history.

Nobody is certain what it represents exacly; what is indeed certain is that the people of northern Portugal and NorthWestern Spain (Galiza) are all descendants of ancient celtic tribes... The only problem is the non recognizment by the celtic nation, because the ancient celtic language no longer exists; albeit some nameplaces and words still exist. Just to inform you on that...
