In 1968, I graduated from high school and was getting ready to go to college. My uncle, who then lived and worked in Germany, had travelled to South Africa. He gave me a tape with Miriam Makeba's music. Immediately, I was in love with her voice. The more I learned about Mama Africa, the more I came to admire and respect her for her great courage as well as her talent.
