Miriam Makeba sings her most famous song Pata Pata during a performance in the Dutch TV-studios in Hilversum, september 1979. Joining her on stage towards the end of the song is her granddaughter Zenzi. Zenzi's mother, Bongi Makeba, is one of the backing vocalists (in the blue dress).

They're using this song in a TV ad. Unfortunately for them I pay attention to the song and forget the product. I heard her 3 times live in the 60s. Unforgettable. she redefined sexiness, elegance, inclusiveness, music itself. Still sounds great here. Thanks Rayner!

Mama Afrika, will always be in our hearts. The song Pata Pata, was introduced here in Puerto Rico by a salsa band called El gran Combo, it was later that I knew that it was Mrs. Makeba's song. I am sure she "went" happy, she was singing moments before her departure.

it was during an art class in a small new england town when i was probably a sophomore in high school that i was first introduced to the voice or mariam mekeba. i had never heard such sounds. i was awed & mesmerized. our instructor, who was clearly ahead of his time played her music often for us. i'll never forget her & her music. she brings back memories of my period of discovery. most of my contemporaries have never heard of mariam, but i've known & loved her since the early 60's
