so true. I just recently discovered her. I'm from Germany so, naturally, I haven't got a clue ;) ....she is brilliant! There's so much to be learnt from her! And your country can judge itself really happy to have public people like her. I mean she really makes a difference, shapes opinions, makes people think critically...and you also have others like her: Julie Walters, Maggie Smith (and the guys, of course, too)....they are all so brilliant. Germany is unfortunatelly a bit culturally depraved...I think it might be because we Germans sort of lost ourselves and had to rediscover ourselves so often in history. So, I think, we are in a slight state of flux, always searching, always uncertain....which is not bad! Rigidity is always worse....but I miss something firm, something well-grounded...and people like Miriam have that.

It's not that she's childish, exactly, it's that she's retained some of the characteristics that we associate with children - the ones that ought to get carried over into adulthood. Y'all having inspired me now to reread Dickens. I believe I read something in school cuz we were required to and I had one memory which stayed with me forever, so that's interesting. AS I recall, the little orphan boy had been actually from a very fine upper-class family and then he found himself as a street urchin growing up as an orphan. My memory is when he was meeting someone, he used the type of words and body language that a very upper-class, well-bred little boy would use. HE said something to the effect: "SO nice to meet you". And he bowed and extended his hand or something like that. I don't recall the particulars now but it just brought home how one's ancestors do speak through one sometimes and in his case of course he got beaten up for being innately of that background. BUT often it does lend its hand to aid us in this crazy world we now live in where we have no models to look up to or to mimic in the best possible sense of the word. So YES Dickens it is ladies!!☺
