UFC가 본격적으로 몸집 불리려고 했을 때, 로렌조 퍼티타랑 데이나 화이트가 아주 큰 돈 주고 모셔간 게 미르코 크로캅. 크로캅 이적 이후로 탑티어 선수들이 다 UFC로 모임. 물론 PRIDE가 바로 도산한 영향도 있지만. 데이나가 크로캅만 빼오면 UFC가 PRIDE 무조건 이긴다는 계산이 있었다고 할 정도로 인기스타였음. 심지어 크로캅이 퇴물이 되었던 2009년에도 크로캅이 UFC와 계약해지 하고 일본으로 갈거라니깐 UFC 회장 로렌조 퍼티타가 그날 바로 전용기 타고 크로아티아로 가서 엄청나게 큰 돈을 주고 재계약 시킴. 말씀대로 MMA 인기가 대단해진 시발점이 크로캅, 반다레이 실바라고 봄.
