Nostalgic for me; we used to have a house backing onto the lagoon behind HISC. Sailed that route many times. When I was about 12, a friend and I sailed a Mirror right around Hayling. Mum made us a packed lunch, and off we went. No wetsuits or rescue boats! I think we dropped the mast to row under Hayling bridge. The trip was uneventful, so I think we were bloody lucky! Fair winds, skipper! Nick

Thank you. The Mirror has been modified to have a gaff rig with slab reefing and a pivoting centreboard.

Enjoy your videos. I too am curious about what you use for a white navigation light?

What light do you use? As I stick to the Gunter rig, I'd need a light that can be fixed to the tip of the gaff somehow.

I've solved this by literally taping a 9v battery to the end of the gaff and running a 12v LED all round white off of it. It still lights it sufficiently.

Hi Gernot. I use the Lalizas LED all round white light, which is available quite cheaply. www.lalizas.com/product/32-led-navigation-lights/6189-classic-led-12-all-around-light-12-24v I fix it on top of the spinnaker crane. I agree the Gunter yard obstructs it a bit but it seems reasonable. Good sailing. D

David, I’ve gone back to look at your replies and I’m not seeing any comment about the light you used. The only comment I can see concerns a “thank you for your comments “ and a “D”.

Sorry, Sheldon, you are not seeing the comment for some reason. The lamp is a white all round LED one made by Lalizas, easily available from chandlers quite cheaply. It is powered from my 12 volt 2 Amp Hour lead acid gel battery. www.lalizas.com/product/32-led-navigation-lights/6189-classic-led-12-all-round-light-12-24v. Good sailing. D

I’ve got an old kolibri I’m outfitting into a camping cruiser. This is valuable info. Thanks!
