Amazing maestro. I went to the peruvian conservatory of music 14 years ago, I studied there with the one that taught Juan Diego florez (while he was in Lima), I had to left because I was creating lots of tension I believe he was for advance singers and not for beginners. Here with your youtube videos Im understading the foundations of singing, now Im 36 years old feeling a lil bit old for starting a career as a singer but happy for finding your videos that are pure gold. thank you for uploading all your knowledge for free. May god bless you for helping individuals like me.

Hello, mr. Trimble. I watch your videos with enthusiasm. I am baritone studying in music college and I got a little problem. When I sing nigh notes (from F) the sound goes clunk, and not powerful as if vocal cords are leaking air. I try to breath behind me and to lean on my diaphragm, and it works greate until F and F#. Maybe an attack of sound is not properly organised or I should lean just more. I hope you could give me a tip to figure it out. Best wishes

Try to learn the "DOWNBOW" method of Sustaining your legato. Just imagine or make the gesture of pretending to hold a violin and drawing the bow only downward at one slow speed and at one angle while you ascend above the staff. Caruso said to "never change the shape of your mouth when ascending up to a high note". Breathe behind you and use the downbow to keep the emission perfectly even while ascending into the upper register. Another method is the "Frozen Pond" called "The Static Diaphragm". Look up the "Static Diaphragm" on my KZbin channel. You may do the "pre-sneeze" with it or not. It works like a charm and the "cover" will be automatic as you reach the Passaggio with both techniques. I hope this will help. Michael t

Do you have any recommendations on singing when sick or with alot of phlegm?
@Tenoretrimble3 жыл бұрын
Breathe first into the lower rear quadrants of the lungs in your lower back (Louisa Tetrazzini), and continue this inhalation from the bottom to the top until your body is completely full of breath. Repeat this breathing technique (Caruso's method of breathing as described in his book) until the throat recovers from the abuse it has suffered because of faulty breathing. Excessive mucous (Phlegm in the wrong places and too much of it) means that your trachea is getting irritated because of high breathing pressure in the trachea or in the sinuses. This kind of pressure is directly attributable to pushing the abdomen outward while inhaling. Practice the Caruso breathing method by pulling the abdomen inward while inhaling into the lower back. Your chronic phlegm problem will disappear very soon. Singing while sick can mean a lot of things, but if fatigue is a problem or general lassitude is dominating your singing, do the BREATH IF FIRE to restore your energy. It is a very standard breathing exercise in the practice of Yoga, and one of the quickest ways to stimulate your "chi" (or "ki), which is a form of applicable bio-electrical energy. The malaise that often is present when we do not feel good can be eliminated for an indeterminate period by the Breath of Fire, depending on the seriousness of the affliction being suffered. Mr. Trimble I have a question that I have been dying to ask. For high notes, I have watched your video on high notes and there is supposed to be no change in the throat, however when reaching for a high note I feel muscles are partially used in the throat and the larynx rises which incorrect I highly presume. However, what else would be used to reach for a high note since the throat may be completely invisible and the larynx must not move unless the breath moves it, yet the larynx still rises even if barely any breath is escaping, is this normal? Another question is how to sing in middle voice (mix voice) as I want to belt high notes, yet mixing and varying the ratio between head voice or falsetto and chest voice is a difficult concept to grasp. May you please aid me in this issue I have? Also thank you so much Mr.Trimble for your wonderful knowledge and I hope that everything goes absolutely splendid for you and sorry for the long question!

Edward Fu research flageolet. You will have a change in your throat due to the narrowing and also your vocal chords when changing octaves change vibration points of the vocal chord and shorten what actually vibrates on the chords. Should happen at c5 for males.

Ruby Read thank you for the tip, however I thought that flageolet was a type of whistle note? If I am wrong please correct me, anyways thank you Ruby for the information!

Hi Michael. Thank you for all your information. I was wondering if you might try to clarify what you mean when you say to breathe behind you in your lower back. When I do this it seems to close off rib expansion. Is it maybe because I am focusing too much on the lower back? Should I be inhaling into the entire back? Thank you.
@Tenoretrimble3 жыл бұрын
Remember the old rule of the Bel Canto era....."NOTHING MOVES UNLESS THE BREATHING MOVES IT". You must not expand the any of the ribs , from lowest ones to the upper ones with muscles alone. The inhalation into the lower back will expand them downward and outward at the lowest rib area in the lower back, and any muscular expansion without breathing deeply into the lower ribs as a way to expand the ribs will interfere with the best kind of breathing and support ever discovered. Read my book or Caruso's book or Tetrazzini's book or Lilli Lehmann's (my book quotes them all and many more great singers) and you will understand that the ribs NEVER MOVE UNLESS THE INHALATION MOVES THEM! Try it and you will get rid of the tension and conflict in the breathing process and you will be breathing the way that was described by the greatest singers in history. One of the most successful breathing exercises was the long, sustained "snore" breathing. Inhaling slowly through the nose while imitating a snoring person will cause the breath fill the lowest quadrant of the lungs first and then expand the middle ribs, the upper ribs, and finally the chest will expand out and sideways. It will prevent the "sleeping baby" breathing that pushes the abdomen outward and make you breath like a laughing or crying baby. Look up VALSALVA MANEUVER and MUELLER MANEUVER to get an idea of how the great singers breathed inward against some kind of resistance. Corelli and Jerome Hinds used only the Mueller Maneuver. Good luck, Michael t
