As some of you probably noticed there wasn't a lot of pictures available for this one, some of the victims don't even have photographs. So apologies if you find the visuals repetitive but there wasn't much else we could do unfortunately. Corrections and Additional Information: 1:36 Her last name is actually pronounced "Larry" despite being spelled Larey, so goes another name into the Crime Spot pronunciation hall of shame lol. 11:37 I know he looks super young in this picture and that's because his most recent photo was a few years before the murder when he was still a pre-teen

I was born and raised in Texarkana. The phantom is still talked about today as if it’s still happening. The most sensible rumor we would hear as kids from parents, grandparents, and so on was it was a cop angered by the “lack” of interesting crimes in the area using this to draw attention to the city which has grown significantly over the years. Really good video.

My mother’s best friend, “Mom,” is 97 & still lived in Texarkana back then, where she was born & raised. She was only 20 & dating her future husband at this time. Her mother told the young couple not to even sit in the car in the driveway after a date as it was too dangerous. Just spoke to Mom & she said she doesn’t remember being too scared; guess they were young, he had just returned from the war (her 1st husband was killed in WW2 like my mama’s) so I guess she’d been through the worst already.

I have always thought this too because the woman in the first case said he was in his early Twenties that would put him in his mid 40s at the time of the zodiac killings I think there's way too many similarities. Also how many people did the Zodiac claim he killed in the letter I wonder if anybody's done the math and put the Texarkana murders on top of the murders that he is claimed to have done in California and I wonder if that matches the number in the letter

I'd wager the Phantom had either a background in law enforcement or a relationship with law enforcement in some capacity. As well as being a local, maybe a soldier who returned home with mental instability from the war. One who may have been betrayed by a cheating sweetheart upon his homecoming, hence his targeting of young couples on lover's lanes, his seeming ability to leave no evidence and his knowledge of the area and backroads. Conversely he may well have been an older religious fanatic, as lover's lanes were looked down upon by the church going folk as dens and breeding grounds of sin and iniquity.

enjoyed the program, was very big happenings here in the local area back then. the first happening I believe happened on what is now Robison Rd just north of 7th street/U.S. 67, near railroad tracks, the boy crawling out to 67 for help. BTW the last killing was on Arkansas side, the only one, you said Texas side in video. Also, brutal crime was not new to Texarkana region as during 1890s thru to at least WW l the Swampoodle area west of town was the red light district, full of brothels, honky tonks and much crime. In 1918 the Bowie Co. Sheriff went to Chicago to return a woman witness to a case in Swampoodle, however "mysteriously" her headless body was found in a rural pasture in southwest portion of county near Bassett, Tx, that is just one example.

I believe that the Texarkana murders and the Zodiac killing where perpetrated by the same person. The Texarkana murders took place in 1946 and the Zodiac began in 1969. The MO was almost the same in both cases, the men where stabbed or shot while the women where brutalized to a much more terrible extent. If the Texarkana murderer was in his mid 20's at the time of the killings then he would have been in his 40's during the Zodiac killings. Both men wore masks and used knives and guns to do the killings .Why the killing stopped between 1946 and started again in 1969 could be explained by the killer being incarcerated, spent time in a mental hospital or if he was in the military he could have been stationed over seas or in other states during the none killing period between the two murder sprees. Or perhaps he never stopped killing at all and his crimes where just not linked together due to the fact that back in the days when no computers or communication between law enforcement agencies to compare notes.

Texarkana is such an ominous place not because of this murder but because the people on the Arkansas side of Texarkana are so creepy and mean probably why the murder happened.... you literally cross the street and you're in Texas even the walmart is split in half the Texas side and the Arkansas side. And the people are completely different from the Texas side. Texas side of Texarkana are friendly and normal... The Arkansas side of Texarkana is very scary.. Most Texans try to avoid Texarkana

Absolutely not true..I can tell you're not from Texarkana. There is a Walmart on Texas side of town and Arkansas. You can't tell the difference between the people as we share many things including the hospitals, the mall etc..

Um, I lived in Texarkana for many, many years and your critique is so off base it ain’t even funny. There is no difference in the folks from one side or the other. And there sure ain’t a Walmart where 1/2 is in Texas and the other 1/2 in Arkansas. The main post office however does have 1/2 of it in each state in the downtown area. Never heard anything about Texans avoiding Texarkana either. Hell, back in the day people from Dallas would come party in Texarkana on the weekends cuz our bars and nightclubs didn’t close down until 4am and then there was the Cedar Shake that didn’t close down until the sun came up!!

I swear, I’m listening to this, double checking my locks on house both on my front and back door and closing the blinds, And I live in a town near San Antonio, Texas. I will say, here’s me theory, I don’t know if it true, but my theory is that the killer was probably an WW2 veteran who came home and probably was suffering from severe PTSD. Remember WW2 had just ended a year prior, so of course there were soldiers that came home possibly having a sever case of. Most likely the killer felt as though the war never ended, he might have gone so insane that he believed that everyone was an enemy and but who knows. But that’s my theory.

Have seen this case presented on other channels. The differing accounts by the first two victims was very strange but the cops shouldn't have assumed they knew the killer, bad mistake. Ranger Gonzalez seemed to have done nothing but appear wherever cameras were assembled, he was not a lawman, just an actor. The deputies look like a bunch of farmers dressed in business suits, this case never had a chance of being solved. Sweeney was a car thief and thieves don't usually change their MO's unless there's a good payoff and this wasn't.

Mr Hollis was real lucky that he survived especially back in 1946. The moonlight murderer must have got almost like a sexual release when he realized the police were watching and trying to capture him because clearly he knew he didn't fall for their trip
