Fabulous, reminds me of the trips I made that way in the early-mid 1980’s., both in the wet and the dry. Did the sand dunes track a couple of times as well, challenging, but well worth the outback experiences. 👍😁🇬🇧🇦🇺🔭

Thanks for you video. I travelled on the inside track by mistake, given the incorrect directions and unaware the track was closed. got down 60 km before I became totally bogged. had to call Pete from the Birdsville r/h. he came a pulled my out and we returned to Birdsville. the track had become an underground river with a thin crust on the top, grey clay soup going down for further than my suspension could travel. still all part of the adventure when the outside track in so boring.

I can understand taking it by mistake. There wasn't a sign anywhere at the start of the track when we were there, so we weren't even sure if we were on the right road or not. As for the track surface, it's very deceiving as you found out. It looks dry on top...but it isn't.

Just watched Part One of your video mate - well done given the circumstances... You cannot beat the old Land Rovers in my opinion and this video actually shows them to be far better than others... Couple of things you may not know about Land Rovers... When you are Off Road or On the Dirt - Yep always engage the Center Diff Lock... That is what they are for and it makes the driving much easier and also safer... Other thing is this - unlike other brands of 4X4's - the Land Rover works best when driven as slow as you can and as fast as you have to in muddy conditions and then the babies behave very nicely thank you... Great work at the wheel indeed though... Towing a trailer through that - yeah that's what Land Rovers are for... Well done on the video mate...

I've done this in the early 80s. It's NOT what you expect out there. Just goes to show, carry MORE fuel than you need and be prepared to camp for a day or so till the roads dry out. The grader driver loves it (it keeps him in a job) but the cow cockies don't like their roads chopped up unnecessarily.
@Misadventure4WD
@Misadventure4WD 8 жыл бұрын
We copped a bit of flack over this vid Ross as you could imagine but we did check with nat parks to ensure the road was open and actually followed one of the locals down the track so we thought we'd be OK. We did pull off the road to assess whether we could just stop there for the night but the car and camper began to sink so we though best to push on. One of the craziest treks we've ever done.

@@Misadventure4WD Surely common sense would tell you to turn around when the rain started and the track was getting wetter, not drier. You don't do the rest of us any good by destroying the track like that just to get a video. No bloody wonder NP close some trails.

It was definitely one of the more stressful trips we have done especially because we were on our own. We actually only saw four or five groups the entire trek so we could easily have be stranded for a while. You can't really see it in the video but we ended up off the road again at one section and the car just started to sink. I couldn't get any forward momentum in either high or low range and had to work the front wheels back and forwards to try and get just enough traction to start us moving back onto the track. Just another Misadventure for us ;-)

hi mate, just wondering why you chose the landy over a toyota? Not having a dig, just wondering what the advantages are.
@Misadventure4WD
@Misadventure4WD 9 жыл бұрын
giantranga414 We've also got the Range Rover Sport you see in some of the vids so we've enjoyed both ends of the spectrum. There are a lot of factors when i comes down to that decision. I grew up enthralled by the idea of remote area adventures in 4WD's from Leyland Brothers to African Safari adventure shows and always had an affinity for them. The Land Rover community is just incredible too and we found so much more welcoming and supportive than many of the other marquis. We love the look of the defender and all of the gear available for them as well as the driving fun we have in it. Nothing gives us the same sense of being in the moment when we are offered like the Defender. As soon as you sit in it, you feel like you're off on an adventure. Too many vehicles these days take away from the driving experience and try to cocoon the driver away from the action (primarily for on road comfort) but that's not what you want when you're out amongst it. You want to feel like you're engaged with every moment. I think the 200 series are a great rig and am even a bit of a fan of the 76 dual cab but neither have the combination of looks, driving experience and heritage that Defender has.
@giantranga414

I did that in a Landy Freelander 2 and that mud was so bad it filled up the wheel arches and dried out from the wheel friction, it stopped the wheels from turning, the car wouldn't go. @Misadventure4WD
@Misadventure4WD 10 жыл бұрын
With all due respect mate, there was minimal rain overnight and we also checked the road closures that morning before we headed out to ensure we were good to go. The track was listed as open so we went. We figure that the local authorities know better than we do so we followed their lead. As you can see in the early part of the video you can also see one of the locals heading out ahead of us. This confirmed for us that the track must be OK. By the time you get to the serious stuff, you're already too far in to go back. You also don't know how far the trouble will extend.
