@@HondaWanderer Ah, was gonna say. This happened to me before and the message popped up suggesting me to Alt J to jettison out the Quantanium. So now I know and you have confirmed that only when the Quantanium gone critical, we can then use jettison. Thanks for finding out !!

I have used Alt+j to successfully jettison the cargo (unwanted inert material) so I think it's working now.

Thanks for the vids. Just did my first Q run, sweet 31 scu. Used your suggested Helix, 2 x torrent III and the Forrel. Worked a treat, although those first broken bits are a bit nerve racking. Must admit the thought of using the surge scares me, I'm a tortoise not a hare.

This is invaluable material! I would like to put in a request though : Prospector Maintenance. This ship's gonna be your baby, so you want to take care of it. Those bags, when they're gone... I don't know what to do to replace them! I lost both on the right side and no amount of 'Repair' on any pad will replace them. Neither will claiming it. I've also heard you can put in Argo Mole bags and have up to 48scu cargo space... but how? How to get those bags? How to find other 'abandoned' prospectors outside of armistice that you could tractor-beam the bags? Is that how to do it? Can you hear the despair in my voice? Hahahha a little help on the care and repair would be much appreciated (btw, this is 3.21 patch I'm talking about)

​@@vyndaiokind of you to reply but I did say claiming doesn't fix the issue . It turns out this is related to a known bug concerning pad repairs (Vs. Hangar repairs) that flag a ship as "repaired" even though it's still missing parts. Happens with the Vulture too

I have a questions Question: is there a way to mining the Gemstones with the prospector on the planets (maybe a combo of lazer and modules for the setup)? Request or recommend in creating a video with more details about the controls - Which key does what for mining. including how to reduce your ping detection against those pesky pirates or villains that just want to blow you up. I really want to thank you Red for all of your videos, they have been very educational.

While it IS possible to fracture gemstone deposits in a prospector, the laser power is two orders of magnitude more powerful than the ROC. Mining laser power for the ROC is around 12, while the Lancet mining laser power is 1200. It would take a lot of to break the rock without shattering it, and then you'd need to get out and collect the gemstones on foot anyways. It's best to just fork over the 4k/day to rent a ROC or the 172k to buy it outright.

Thanks for the tutorials man, these are fantastic. Have you found any work around for the extremely bright and hard to read mining mode HUD on the Prospector this patch? I'm having a really hard timing noting the charge level between the blinding white on white and random HUD glitches they added.

I haven't found a workaround, and it's also something I've struggled with. There are a few issue council reports that have been confirmed, and I hope they'll have a fix in the 3.15.1 patch for IAE.

I found this to help: Before pressing M for mining, Press the Alt key and use the M wheel to zoom in a bit. Then press the M, the Mining displays will then be zoomed in and can see a little bit better, I found zooming in so you just can read the number in your load works for me.

So, the RSI seems to show that the Prospector has a Size 2 mining laser. Is the laser head different than the laser itself? (Kinda like gimbals and guns) - I made the mistake of buying a Helix II…

Hey, The option to jettison cargo has been hit and miss, but that could be due to bugs in the current game version. I'll make sure to update the pinned comment with that info and hopefully it becomes more reliable in the future.

Good series! Unfortunately RNGesus wasn't with me today. Found some quant asteroids, scanner wasn't working! Later found some more (7 in one instance), only 2% max, found another two & got 20 scu; wasted 3 hours and was getting dangerous looks from the copawlot who demanded his dinner, so had to make do with some titanium and borase 😢

Hey there! great tutorial, but i have a problem with the Helix I, it looks like it only has 2 ports for mining modules, ive tried from the vehicle loadout manager and also tried unlocking all ports and using the tractor beam to attach the 3rd module but no results, any tips?

Great series of mining tutorials. Now that it has been updated, would you consider to run with the brandt module that has 20% signature and +10% heat for the second loadout?

The Brandt is a good active module, which is cheaper to start up with and can be activated when needed. I still prefer passive modules for most applications because then I don't have to track how many uses are left, or get stuck without the module I need because I didn't keep count.

Playing for free rn with IAE and I was mining with an org with the free rental prospector. Had a lot of trouble breaking anything above even .7 instability What should I be expecting for a normal prospector? also, how viable are prospector rentals?

The rental prospector is very limited in its use since the stock laser offers no benefits, and you aren't able to change equipment on a rented ship. I would love it if CIG changed that. If you are soloing rocks in a stock prospector it can be done, but I would not suggest trying for quantanium or borase since they have pretty high instability. You should also try to find rocks below 5000 mass, since anything larger and the arbor mining laser won't be able to break it. Going in a group is a great idea, as you can pair up with another prospector that might have optimized equipment. Those bonuses are shared as long as you are both mining the same rock.

@@RedMonsterSC I have successfully mined Quant with the Arbor laser head that is stock on the rented Prospector, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Pucker factor was waaaay too high. What every new miner needs to keep in mind, is the the most profitable ores are profitable for a reason. Every ore, except for inert, makes a profit, especially when you refine it. Mining the lower profit stuff also gives you experience that can be applied to the higher grades when you buy a Prospector, and makes the mining much easier and more enjoyable when you upgrade the mining head to what you want. Don’t frustrate yourselves by trying to mine the rich stuff when you have no experience.

Active modules can be activated using Alt+1, Alt+2, and Alt+3 keys respective of which module slot the active module is in.

www.erkul.games/loadout/km4EpdXg - I use the expedition quantum drive because you're usually refining pretty close to where you're mining, and the size 1 drives don't offer much range. The other components I just opt for stock, or if I have the extra funding I choose military grade A components. I do swap out the distortion repeaters for a set of laser repeaters to provide at least some lethal defense options.

I see the overview and materials are a different color text at 5:22. Is that an option or a previous version? A buddy I play with can't read the text at all and has messed with every graphic setting in game and on his monitor.

The Prospector HUD is currently difficult to read due to some brightness issues. What some have tried is to tune the gamma settings on their game to make that readable, but it will affect graphical quality for the rest of the game. An alternative is to use the Mole which has a different HUD color scheme.

Alt+J when in mining mode to Jettison your current load. You have to have volatile materials (quantanium) and the warning timer needs to be going off.
