@MischiefMakerTV Жыл бұрын
I’ve put a lot of thought into which trail and…it’s complicated. Part of me wants to dive right into the harder stuff and see how I handle myself (I had been wheeling 2-3 times a week minimum since 2019 until I got hurt). The more logical part of me and the part that truly enjoys the sport says I should just go hit something easy and get the jitters out of the way (and make sure my modifications are up to snuff). I think my logical side will win this one in the end, but I’m definitely eager to get back out on the extreme trails! 😊🤘🏻

I was wondering if the splines were going to get buggered by cutting through the middle of them. Good job!
@MischiefMakerTV Жыл бұрын
My plan was to plug weld - only drilling through the additional piece added in between the cut - and then tack the edge in 2 spots. Drilling through both tubes was not part of my plan but it worked out in the end (remember, you can always do it right if you do it twice! 😅). I can’t think of one good garage story where everything went perfectly 🤣
@krawlerkingdom Жыл бұрын
@@MischiefMakerTVI rarely if ever get to do anything once 😂. I figured cutting closer to the end so you wouldn’t have to line up two sections of splines. Your adjusted method worked out just fine😂 You totally got me with the chute video! I was thinking that was one heck of a first obstacle back

A tape measure tip for better measurements.. put the edge of the tape on the piece and put one of the inch markings on the mark you're measuring from, then measure out.. its a little easier than trying to figure out where to put the end..

Soon as I saw how far the inner part slides into the outer part, I knew this was going to be more complicated than expected. Ideally, you'd probably want to cut the column as close as possible to the front UJ, so the splined section of the column isn't touched.
@andrewkoetz3933 Жыл бұрын
The Bombi steers like a Bobcat skidsteer tractor. A piece of WWII history the Sherman tanks were steered in the same manner as a good size chunk of our armed forces came off the farms to fight......
@thatdave86 Жыл бұрын
Steering,a safety product lets just cut n tuck it will be fine Maybe see if any other Jeep models have a longer steering shaft component Cutting in the middle may have been the mistake The ultimate fix must be a new splinned tube ,welded into the jount end ,as per original Considering that your machine is pushed to some limits i think it deserves the utmost importance of detailed repairs . Another factor would be to see if the steering bracket makers have a extended steering shaft kit to go with the bracket/mount they must know that it will be needed Your choice i suppose,but i think Tom Tom is letting himself down ,he normally pushed for excellence.

I'm surprised that a 2" horizontal move of the steering box only required a 2" angular length change of the steering rod, I would expect it to be longer.
@MischiefMakerTV Жыл бұрын
Walter said the same thing, but I had spoken to a few folks who have done similar relocations (and a few who had used this same kit) & it seems like the splined section is fairly long with these steering shafts, so we only need to add a little bit to ensure there is still good engagement when the shaft is extended and locked in place.

It deserves repeating. Matt, that spinny thingy is generally known as a death wheel for a reason. In the last few months, I've seen safety glasses with pieces of a death wheel sticking about a half inch through them. We would miss you dearly, whereas we wouldn't much care about the death of your HAT. It's not like burning your fingers. Capisce?
