Un parfait équilibre des timbres, des aigus purs, un tempo merveilleusement révélateur, ça fait du bien !

The musical jewel of the Catholic Church is this choir.

That is so cute at :50 - the little boy on the orange box! This version is actually two version on top of each other. The original was much different and, when the Sistine chapel choir performed it, not only did they put in alubementi, but they had castrati on soprano and contralto!

@grrrr1. It is not a myth. The last of the castrati of the Sistine Choir can be heard on a CD by Opal/Pearl called The Last Castrato. This piece was written by one of the tenors in the 1600s. However, the modern version heard here wasn't around until the 1930s, I believe. The castrati existed from about 1650 through 1870, after which only a few remained and even fewer were recorded.

This version is actually two version one atop the other. The original was quite different- not the least of which is because the Sistine Chapel choir was the only one to have the score AND the choir consisted of roughly 16 castrati through about 1850 which was notorious for it's alubementi.

Miserere mei, Deus: secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam. Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me.

Asperges me hysopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor. Auditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata.
