Having had the Vauxhall Omega for only a couple of months, she's already let me down. In this video I try to find out what the problem is.

Trying to fix it but making it worse, is certainly relateable, and it's often big problems caused by small fixes. Like, oh no a frayed wire, I will just fix that. Then the other wire had the same issue (but unseen) now there is a small fire and a sensor shorted out so the car won't start.

Cam cover gasket leaking oil into spark plug wells causing misfire... where have I seen this before... ah yes my SW20!

I thought you were just getting it as a sleeper build. But... I can't say I am surprised it had some issues. I am glad it was not like... a timing chain skipping and destroying the engine. It has a nice pair of intakes though.

Yeah, I expected issues, but I was also expecting to be using it a lot more than I've been able to so far 😅 annoyingly it is due a timing belt, although I think it's a non-interference engine at least (although I should probably double check that)

OH NO! Don't tell me that, now I feel like I jinxed it! Hopefully it is non-interference. Anything with a belt should be (IMO), a friend's Aveo destroyed itself one day because the belt snapped at 90,000km.

You might struggle to get them new rocker covers. I’ve manage to pick up from eBay 2.5 v6 vectra aluminium covers 👌🏻 hopefully you’ll be lucky to ! And can’t wait for part 2 ! I need to see where is valve brother !

Thanks, part 2 is up now. Luckily I didn’t need new covers, just the gaskets, although good ones of those weren’t easy to find for a good price 😖

Vera, that was what my Zafira was called. It was wicked Vera at first because of the WKD reg. Nearly bought an Omega many moons ago but got a cheap Vectra instead. still like them though

What is all that schmoo on the inside of the intake plenum? I've never looked inside my intake runners but I hope they don't look like that.

Mostly oil from the crankcase breather. It’s pretty normal for older cars that don’t use a catch can as the crank case is vented back into the intake, and that will always bring a small amount of oil with it, which builds up over time

Man, whoever owned that bodged it together. I hope this is the biggest problem you have with it.

It's a Chevy. Cylinder 1 is on the port side (passenger for you), unless that specific motor is a special case.
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Жыл бұрын
This is must be a special case, as according to the labels cast in to the engine cylinder one 1 is on starboard side (my driver's side). Might be a British thing, as according to wikipedia all the Omega/Catera V6 engines were made in England

4:00 You could have used the impact driver in the blue case to loosen that phillips screw. Its what they're designed for. you just set the driver to loosen, set it into the phillips screw, and hit the end with a hammer.
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
@EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness Жыл бұрын
That would have been the next plan. As the screw was already a bit stripped I wanted to try the more gentle approach first - it was only a little 1/4" ratchet, so I wasn't putting much torque into the bolt
