Misfire Diagnosis + Repair & Trailer Hitch Install - 2002 Honda CR-V

In todays video we are helping out my realtor Phil with his 2002 Honda CR-V. He needs a new Curt trailer hitch installed, but he also has a check engine light on for misfires on cylinder 2, 3, and 4. I smoked the engine to further diagnose the misfires and found a BUNCH of vacuum leaks. These are speed density engines so vacuum leaks don’t affect them in the same way as having a MAF sensor. Random cold start misfires on Hondas are typically valve clearance problem or blown head gasket. I typically look at my MAP reading at idle. Anything over 1 volt indicates some type of mechanical issue. I was an Acura dealer tech for 12 years. I love your videos, you have a great personality for KZbin.

thanks for the knowledge! wasnt sure where to go with misfires across the board, also couldnt find the MAF as well. makes since its got a MAP sensor like my old Jeep. I guess valve clearance will be a good next place to go if the misfires come back. Phil said its been running like a dream since the vacuum leak repairs so maybe it made some difference. About glueing plastic stuff, look up the superglue and baking soda trick. Been using it for years, most of the time it works wonders. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that you need the runny superglue and not the gel type.

I tend to cut pieces of paper towel or blue shop towel with superglue. Cut it, place it and then the paper will soak up the superglue and form a great patch!

Aren't you supposed to check tyre pressures when they are cold, not after a road test? Also, why was there oil in the intake? Does that mean the MAF sensor is covered in oil now?

tire pressure will increase by 4 psi from cold to hot, so as long as you keep that in mind its all good. For the oil, i believe it was coming from the PCV hose from the Valve cover to the air box. Could be from worn out valve train or the recirculated engine pressure not getting filtered correctly before re entering the intake stream. This engine is also consuming a little bit of oil. This engine has a manifold absolute pressure sensor instead of a MAF so no concern of an oil soaked MAF sensor

Hey, just wanted to ask if you would know how to rethread a stripped bolt on a BMW E46 Sedan power steering feed line that connects to the pump?

i havent done that before, its a pretty large size banjo bolt... youre going to need a HUGE drill and heli coil set if you did do it, id just replace the power steering pump instead, cant be too expensive
