@numskul7 жыл бұрын
Zomby Woof He's my guitar Antihero. The one factoid I had about him back in the day was that he didn't used his two high strings. I loved that because I never used my high E. I would take it off. Then I bought a set of his strings and that was it. I was inspired by the primitiveness of his playing. It felt raw and honest. No bullshit. I was in Cancerslug almost 10 years ago and his influence helped me play a lot of those songs. He and Alex are a great match. Killer band.

10 years ago in Portland, Doyle signed a Ramones CD for my 7 year old son at a book store, and with the Ramones looking on, hoisted him up in the air and pretended he was going to eat him. My son plays guitar to this day, and for that, Doyle, I thank you.

@squidtickler312810 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's as if the ethos of punk rock fell on deaf ears. Technicality doesn't make a good song. His honesty is refreshing if nothing else.
@Dylanquinn66610 жыл бұрын
Squid Tickler Exactly. Having heart and soul in your music is far more important than knowing every single chord and being able to play perfect solos etc. Jimi Hendrix didn't play his guitar "the right way" at all, and look at how great he was. Finding a way that works for you is the way to go.
@squidtickler312810 жыл бұрын
You summed it up quite well. I would also throw in showmanship. The ability to entertain. Does it make you a better musician, no...but it makes you more memorable. It's finding the right balance of both. Doyle is a solid musician, and a solid entertainer.
@squidtickler312810 жыл бұрын
Misfits pretty much created the genre of Horror Punk. Which obviously you're not a fan of, and that's ok. The genre is inherently not technical. It's 3 or 4 chords...i believe it stems from this genre the kids today call rock n' roll. But, you know...Rock n' Roll never influenced anyone so you're right. It's also terrible that displaced teenage emo kids like rebellious music. I thought teenagers got over the angst thing a long time ago,...sigh....I'm going to go eat a werthers original now and ponder this list below for awhile. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cover_versions_of_Misfits_songs

Doyles attitude toward the music reminds me of the old Rock and Roll days. The days of greasers and cars with fins. Days when people minced their words less, and were more raw. Its way old school, thats why a lot of people misunderstand him.
@TheInternetDisease10 жыл бұрын
True in a sense, but the makeup contradicts the rawness. I love Doyle but the face-painting is a gimmick that should have been left behind w/ Jerrys sad version of The Misfits. I'd have much more respect for him if he did the same thing w/ no makeup.

@@TheInternetDisease You know one of the reasons why he still paints his face is that he doesn't even want people to know what he looks like without it. Kind of like what KISS had going for them in the 70's. Also why should he give it up. The look of a band is almost just as important as the sound. It's all mixes together in a way. Truer words have never been spoken when he says "you don't have to know how to be a great guitarist, you have to just write good songs". That is the secret behind all the great bands in the world. ACDC, Misfits, Sex Pistols, The Ramones...they all have one thing in common. Great songs. Hell, all of those bands together probably know four chords, one scale (the major scale) and that is it. Listen to Blitzkrieg Bop or Pumpkin Head or Highway To Hell. Simple, relentless, tight and in your face. Great rundown but the interviewer has got to get over the "starstruck teenager" vibe. He is so "wow! that is so cool...unbelievable..." Come on man, grow a set already.

Exactly. Not very much people enjoy cats like Satriani, and those. People want to hear poppy tunes, thats al. Its simple.
@PtyYouTube10 жыл бұрын
actually the interviewer looks like he wants a piece of Doyle's wood

Danny Criss DUH! Everyone in the Western world knows what "grow a set" means, dumbass. Try reading the rest of my comment and see what I was getting at, it's not too difficult to understand if you try.
@Maceta4449 жыл бұрын
Yeah dude but that´s not an excuse to play like shit and be like "hey i don´t need this". Learning theory and improving your skills really boosts your songwriting. I see a lot of kids that buy expensive amps and distortion pedals only to play power chords and it makes me fucken mad.
@fangsabre9 жыл бұрын
+Täking Thë High Roäd i think angus young probably could play more technical if he wanted, and he does more than the Ramones or the Misfits (i love both those bands, not bashin them)
@EricLippi4 жыл бұрын
Dude, I never really much cared for the Misfits until I saw this and I friggen LOVE this guy. My favorite quotes: "I suck, man"... "If it's not easy, it goes in the trash"... "I don't need that pressure"... "my daughter's pink acoustic guitar"... "I need [that tape] to see the notes"; and his must-have? Gum. This is the type of rock star I would want to be.

Baby steps man. Get some cheap electronics and gear, pine or plywood body and neck and go from there. You don't need really any power tools though those do make things easier. Once you're done, scrap it and rebuild it, correcting all the mistakes you made in the first. You get to reuse most of your initial investment. The one powertool above all others that I would recommend is a $20 hand drill.

"I %#$*^ hate Marshalls" - Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. I wonder how many Marshall fanbois heads exploded after they heard that. Yes, children, there are plenty of great-sounding amps besides Marshall!
@davekp67734 жыл бұрын
Doyle doesnt rag on them for no reason, he makes it quite clear why. Works for some and not for others. As a Brit I personally use a Peavey as it works for me.

You need to get his full workout regimen and his diet. This guy could star on WWE or whatever wrestling show he feels like. He could compete in body building. It takes a lot of work and dedication to be ripped like that, I don’t know how in the world he can play like he does and stay in shape like he is. Amazing. Congratulations. This man is committed and a man among men.

Doyle is and has been one of my favorite guitarists for many years. He always catches a lot of shit for being 'anti-social' in interviews, but you can tell he loves to play, and being asked about his set up, he is more than willing to talk about it. Props to a great dude who is an honest, down to Earth straight shooter.

Had no clue about this guy, great interview. Love seeing someone be real and humble. I practice jazz, but realize songwriting is the real important thing over technicality! Even though I love technical music lol. I love that a lot of his creativity comes from building the gear...volume is important to him...hell yeah...
