They’re right about OxyContin. My grandfather was prescribed this, and it lead him to a 10+ year battle with addiction, including trying to get better with Methadone Clinic. It didn’t work. Xanax and benzodiazepine dependence/withdrawals in general are pretty horrendous. A lot of people will say that they are worse than opioid withdrawals, and while opioid withdrawals themselves can be an unimaginable hell, benzo withdrawals really are somehow a level above. You think it's just quelling your anxiety, insomnia, panic, etc, but your body begins to become dependent on it, effects become less and less apparent, negative cognitive side effects become more apparent and when you quit, all hell unleashes. Literally. You feel like you're in your own personal hell in all aspects from the feelings of panic, confusion, derealization, restlessness, relentless anxiety, impending doom, fatigue, to the feelings of being zapped, burned, and prodded as you spasm, twitch, sweat, and move uncontrollably. The worst part is that you continue to feel symptoms for weeks to months and then they come back in waves for the next few months to years. Opioid withdrawals will last a week to a little over a month usually depending on what opioid you use and then from there, shit mostly dies down. It started with anxiety, nausea, shaking and dizziness and then it evolved within a few days into these constant spasms, burning sensations, constant light and sound sensitivity, physical pain, sweats, panic, feelings of being unreal, etc. I remember I got through the first month of withdrawals and I thought I could feel symptoms letting up and out of the fucking blue one night, I could feel my neck and scalp beginning to burn like they got pepper sprayed and lathered with acid, I could see pulsating dots across my vision, I literally didn't know damn near where I was, everything felt like a dream, my heart was pounding, there was this overwhelming pulsating tinnitus, and I thought I was on my way to purgatory or something... If y'all use benzos for anxiety, just don't make them a regular habit. Shit ain't remotely worth it. I wouldn't wish the experience on my worst enemy.

Its really crazy that 4 people can have a more truthful and clear conversation than the entirety of the US government. There is almost zero discussion on the opioid crisis besides the US gov blaming the drug dealers for the crisis. they ignore the otherside of the issue where doctors are creating the problem in the first place and because of this the only responsibility they have is to arrest the drugees and drug dealers, rather than pin pointing the problem at the source, the opioid perscriptions that get most people hooked to begin with.
