Yeah they're pretty rapid to say the least... I've got a 485bhp M140i (manual) and it definitely needs respect. 3rd Gear has such a strong pull that overtaking on a back road can easily have you above 100mph without realising. Accelerated onto the motorway the other day and didn't realise I'd accelerated so hard until I saw the gap between me and normal traffic behind, oops haha.

@@DDG-Downfall oh definitely, it’s got a tiny tank on it! It’s still a 1 series at the end of the day. I can get 46mpg if cruising on the motorway but, yeah it’ll drain fairly quick if you’re pushing on and especially on track.

@@rustler08 What's wrong with bhp? It's what manufacturers use to publish engine hp. Of course this is traditionally at the flywheel. It's just the standard. You want wheel hp, drop 15% - 30% depending on the driveline configuration.

This is so cool. I have an M2 CS in America, which I’m super grateful to have been able to afford and find one. Lapping the ring with it would be a dream, but I would settle for a 140i. I used to own a 135i prior to my M2 and it was such an underrated beast. No LSD but it was a champ. Sadly they don’t sell the 1 series in America anymore, but what a car for the money.

My M140i was about the same power. He’s possibly made it too stiff which is why it’s so twitchy. I had the birds suspension kit with 3 door underfloor brace and it transformed the car.

Me too, 480hp ,lsd,other brake disc , sport brakepads, have the st xta plus3 susp. , The garagist told me he mounted how the factory raccomend, but.last week i went to nürburgring, it was like riding on a rollercoast, jeez , not really stable ...it as low- high speed compression adjust and rebound too but i dont know how to setup , i would not want too fly out of the corner because i changed wrong

@@nascher2306 he also said it has the original LSD. Their is only one version of the LSD. So I suspect he means it’s the original open differential. The way it snaps is different to every B58 with LSD I’ve driven and I also have the same modifications as the yellow M140i in the video.

The M140i platform has lots of potential, but it MUST be well modified in terms of suspension, wheel sizing, diff and brakes because also from the factory its a handful to drive when pushed, it will get sketchy. The chassis gets very easily overpowered by the engine.

Rwd is a lot to handle, xdrive you have more control over the car. Even with all the mods the ESC is constantly flickering. Mine doesn't flicker at all 90% of the time, even in the rain the power is usable.

I have a Stage 2+ M135i and that's more than enough for the chassis. I also see you didn't turn traction control fully off, that's a problem on the ring. Also making the rear really stiff with an agressive LSD can cause more throttle oversteer. If the tyres are AD08R they are good, the newer version AD08RS are not that good.

Those AD08 RS tyres won't be helping. Yokohama have a disclaimer on their website saying they perform worse now thanks to the EU. A set of AR1s might get the power down better!

If it’s break away oversteer the suspension is too stiff at the back; probably needs a thinner rear ARB and or springs & damping to match. You have respect the smaller wheelbase...

Sport+ is great for off the lights but the throttle response is too aggressive for Track, 30% pedal movement is closer 70% compared to other modes. Traction mode or fully off is best.

That was my thought too. I guess the car felt too unforgiven to go DSC off? But adding some traction and ESP aid comes with the cost of that non linear pedal response of the sports +, which I dislike a lot. I kinda hate you have to compromise in the non M car with throtle response - steering weight - traction control / ESP level. I guess thats BMW product distinction strategy. Would be great if we could code the sports+ mode with linear throtle reponse and sporty wheel weight.

The AD08R is a fine road tire, but for something with this much power you want a significantly more sticky option. That likely contributed to the twitchiness. The modern crop of 200 UTQG tires blow it out of the water for outright performance.

Yeah 500hp, 1500kg. Ive got a 1400kg m135i running 450hp, I'm looking at an underbody brace and an M2 diff. The N55 I have is running an e20 tune too for that 450hp and 670Nm and the stage 3 8hp At flash. Now the B58 makes 10% more torque for the same horsepower. I don't feel my M135i, needs more power, it seems less snappy than this m140, but still at 450hp it's a fraction too much power so I need go keep the rear planted a bit better. I think the under body brace will help it, along with the diff. This M140i is very torquey and snappy.

I love the way how it sounds when you lift off the gas pedal. What is that called? Does all the b58 engine make that same sound? Or is it the tuning? I’m currently driving a 328i f30 with bm3 and cant create that sound on command, only in snow when tc is kicking. Planning to buy a m340i g20 hope I can let it make that sound too. I remember some bmw m2’s make that sound too.

Yes, the owner said it had the 'original' M Performance diff. As it comes with an e-diff not an LSD it sounded a bit weird. Although I believe you could get a dealer fitted M LSD so maybe he meant that?

I had 740hp at the back wheel in a commodore with kw suspension and with LSA chev power. My mate has over 1000hp with LS7 and yes lack of traction

Yikes, that thing has WAY more power than it can get to the ground. The ix version might be a more practical idea with all those newton meters to deal with. I checked the wheelbase vs an M3 and it’s only 70mm shorter, so the polar moment shouldn’t be *that* different to cause the unruly behavior. Tires?

i have the B16 on my 125d. Daily drive is really good, only coming off speedbumps is a bit harsch. On the nordschleife is perfect, on gp tracks still a bit too soft. I think it is one off the best for the combination of road and track driving!

I don't know about why that car had so much trouble with rear grip. I have an older (2008) 335i that runs over 500hp on stock suspension ("M" suspension) and I don't seem to have that kind of slip with it. Perhaps the rubber isn't as good as it looks or that rear of the coupe isn't the same or the setup of the new suspension isn't right for that chassis etc. But that slipped way to easy IMHO.
