2jz is overrated. Toyota themselves have never used it in any racing application. In the Supra racecars used the I4 and V8 race engines. The 2urgse has has been used for a long time now.
@spicysnowman8886Ай бұрын
@90beastmaster they didnt use the 2j because they could reach the maximum allowed power for the class from a much lighter 4 cylinder, overall the 2j can make much more power.
@90beastmasterАй бұрын
2jz isn't only heavy but it's also not efficient. Big numbers is all it's good for. Even if you wanted to build some sort of NA build for response it barely breaks maybe 300hp. I just don't get the appeal of 1000hp street cars. You get more out of a balanced car but that's just me, I like to squeeze out every ounce of performance in the corners.
@aaabbb9953Ай бұрын
@@90beastmaster N/A build is300 by Team Lexus or Andrew Wojteczko in usa in 200X was killer on track. They had 2jz-ge there 3.0 or 2.8 versions (trd crank specially made for this due to rules) and it had around 290whp, not hp. Still on stock intake, no itbs etc. Mostly head work, not even fully custom cams because at that time there was no aftermarket for 2jz-ge vvti, so TRD regrinded oem ones. It just isnt worth it buildng it N/A when you can pack v8 and make it easier to reach hp goals. There is guy on it named Supra track attack known for overtaking radical sr3's on track with his 2jz supra, or Kunichiko Bando in Japan that is using 2jz in his fully carbon soarer with 51.9 time on Tsukuba - it is really fast, he is in top 5 times in ranking now. It all comes up to setting up the car with engine and race rules. One guy bought this is300 Andrew Wojteczko former car and he is driving it on track now. His thoughts : "As for lap times, I entered it in GT4 - which at Mosport is 1:35.0 or slower. The very first time I drove it, I qualified first with a 1:36.5 on over-inflated tires. Started the first race from pole and finished first (with second place running some 20 seconds behind) with my fastest lap being a 1:36.0. Started the second race from pole - and actually broke out into GT3 territory three times in the same race (so faster than 1:35) with my fastest lap being a 1:34.5. Considering we had not done ANY setup on the car - as in never even looked at let alone adjusted the shocks - and that another competitor who used to race against the #65 car and is very familiar with it - told me that the fastest it had gone around Mosport with this same motor back in the day was a 1:33.8 (with Andrew - a pro - behind the wheel), I am pretty pleased with that 1:34.5 on the second day I actually drove it. Andrew's car (the #64) did eventually have a 3.0L engine that was close to 290whp and was capable of 1:30s - this motor was closer to 230whp on an old dyno sheet I have from 2007, and I have not dynoed it yet but it certainly hasn't mysteriously gained 60hp from sitting for 10 years. We changed all the fluids, replaced the (tiny) battery, and replaced all safety equipment - but that was pretty much it. Did a nut and bolt check to make sure nothing is loose, and went out. The only shakedown was about 40 minutes in the rain two days before the race weekend in a completely unfamilar car. We didn't even get the tire pressures right until the first race. Aside from inability to get parts (some of which were custom-made for Andrew / AA... I literally jut sent a massive email with measurements to Performance Friction so they can make me some brake rotors), the second biggest "shock" was that the 2.8L engines - which is what I have in mine - have a very high compression ratio and require 98 octane race fuel - which costs about $7 a liter. The car burns a liter a minute at full chat, so a race weekend (~120 min) is over $1.5K in fuel alone if you don't do the Friday practice. It is not cheap, but it is absolutely worth it - because I left the biggest "shock" for last: the way these cars handle. It is BY FAR the best sorted, best balanced car I have ever raced, period. They did so much work and redesign to the subframes and suspension geometry on both the #64 and #65 cars (the #64 was built from a body-in-white by Andrew / AA and has a grey interior while the #65 cage was apparently built in '01 by Franz Blam Motorsports and is white on the inside) that they literally behave like an open wheel formula car. The handling is completely neutral and so predictable, it is freaking BEAUTIFUL. No sudden anything - understeer or oversteer, no change of balance mid-corner, no nothing... when you come in too fast, the front will slightly undeersteer until you scrub off enough speed; when you push too hard through / out of a corner, it will VERY gradually start to oversteer but won't snap... you simply realize that you're going sideways because you're looking "forward" through the side window instead of the windshield, and you just dial in a tiny little bit of opposite lock - without lifting - which keeps it going in the same line until you completely straighten the wheel, coming out of the cornet like a bat out of hell. It is absolutely sublime to drive at speed. It handles as good as a formula car... it is pure magic."
