Very impressive as I own a 2nd generation mini and that has a fancy engine design with dohc, variable valve timing etc and redlines at 6500/7000max while this beast can push to the same numbers, definitely very enjoyable, I wouldn't enjoy a V8 that could only rev to 5k as it would pull for a bit and then you are already at Redline and have to change up while this has another 2k to go 😂👌

Hi Misha! the C6 (C5 and C7 too) does not have a rear solid axel 13:37, it has double wishbone on all 4 corners (like the 458) but instead of the coils it has 2 composite leaf springs, I know because I swpped those for a real coilover set up on my ls3, took me 2 days haha the car is now transformed as far as the handling goes. As an Italian, most old italian cars sadly are good until you actually own or try to drive one, compared to other European brands materials are low quality and the interiors start to deteriorate prematurely, alfa in particular was constantly trying to do better in a worse way for example by putting the rear brakes on the differential like on the 75 (causing them to not work when it was wet cause water would constantly splash on them), by positioning the engine forward to the front axle (like the 33, this kinda improves the grip but when it rains the car becomes terrible and I'm talking about cruising in the city and not racing on a track), also Italian cars transmissions and shifter were generally terrible with extremely long travels or premature wear on some cars (like the 33...) Also there have been years when the cars were poorly made due to constant strikes in the assembly lines, my grandfather ritmo for example was missing a piston ring, lancia delta 836 steering boxes would unbolt themselves. Overall I agree with what u said, Italian cars are indeed unique but trust me you'd prefer a car that doesn't understeer in a big roundabout at 40km/h just because it has been terribly made.

I love how the traction control light is the backside of the actual car not just some symbol. That's very neat. Also I love the typically American long gears. Seemingly endless acceleration without any interruptions. In fact at 8:12 you go from 4k RPM to 7k RPM in whatever gear, which translates to 160kph to 280kph!! Insane. Glad that nothing happened during that plastic cover problem.

Unfortunately, if you're going to flog a C6Z on a racetrack, you really need cooling mods before adding any horsepower. Also the clutch master cylinders in these things aren't very good from the factory, if you have headers, your clutch pedal will get mushy and it won't shift very nicely. I put a Tilton clutch cylinder in mine and I can shift in about 0.25 seconds up at 7500 rpm. Hopefully someday someone brings you one that's well sorted for the racetrack. I think this car is set up adequately for the average enthusiast, but when someone like Misha hops in and really pushes it to the limit, that's when the issues show up.

@sleserginekolog1
@sleserginekolog1 8 ай бұрын
If the car is stock power (or just like headers), then cooling is not a problem. I used to track c6z06 at the ring, i only had headers and never had cooling issues. Clutch issue is another problem, u have to flush the clutch fluid frequently, it gets dirty quick and causes sticky clutch. The big item c6z06 needs at the ring is coilovers and gt3 aero. There used to a guy there (Dennis), who tracked one with gt3 aero, coilovers, semi slicks, stock power levels and he did 7:05 btg.

What little insulation there is behind the carpet falls down and then you're just a few inches away from the metal of the transmission tunnel, which is fantastic at blasting heat into the cabin. Vettes all have overheating issues, most guys in the states just add a small methanol injection kit to keep IATs down on the track, idk how easy it is to get methanol overseas though. Fenders with heat extractors and hood vents help a lot too to get stale air out. Better placement of the trans and oil cooler are also a must on the C5 and C6 imo, upgrading while you're at it is worth every penny.

Z06 cooling issues are unfortunately nothing new. I'd imagine it's probably less of an issue without mods, as I haven't seen too many complaints about it. The C7 Z06 on the other hand is infamous for it, so much so that they heavily overcompensated with the C8 Z06. I think you'll be pleased to know the C8 Z06 was designed to be able to run at the track all day long with the AC on and no heatsoak, which has been corroborated by track tests of the car. Significant quality control improvement should also prevent any more loose plastic pieces, lol. Love to see corvette content even when it doesn't always work out.

Having owned a C5 ZO6 and driven a few C6 ZO6s on track… my consensus is they can be phenomenal on track, however…they will not take it out of the box so to say. Heat issues will always be there, even with stock power. Doesn’t take a whole lot to get that under control though, especially with the C6. They also benefit hugely from, at a minimum, different shocks/dampers. And although it does have independent rear suspension, it uses a transverse leaf spring front and rear that kind of “connects” one side of the car to the other, so if you hit a bump or curb with one side, it will transfer some of that energy. Not ideal, but even the C5/6R race cars used the leaf springs with great success. All in all, fantastically fun cars but if you want it for serious track duty, budget for some durability mods before anything else. That, plus some relatively minor suspension tweaks and it’ll be one of the fastest and best sounding cars out there. Love the content!

I had the seat back break under acceleration on mine! Chevy replaced it but, it was not a good thing!

ZO6 LS7 engine would weigh the same or less than an LS3 and the Z06 is aluminium chassis which is 50kg lighter than the Grand Sport steel frame. There are pro's and con's of each model but the Z06 wins hands down on the weight front.

One Very cool fact about this car is that from any other Corvette, it's back bumper or the whole back,it seems to be the smallest(in my opinion) and it's front is ginormous. Of course it's because it's American power(extremely big blocks or engines whatever) and I can say that because when I first saw it, I got amazed(of course because it's a very cool car) and because I hadn't seen it before then, I just couldn't think what car it was and If you don't believe it or not, If you see it for the first time,to your eyes,will seem such a giant car, but it's engine size, trolls you. Endly that was such a good lap!!!

Cooling issues aside from a daily driver that was meant to deliver good wind tunnel results and fuel economy, the lap Misha laid down was a testament to the basic car's suspension/chassis prowess. Time and again I hear about "coilover" improvements but no one who has switched to coilovers on the C5 or C6 platform has documented actual handling improvements. The transverse leaf was a core design ingredient that provided enough competitive advantages to best cars costing more than twice as much (ie. Ferrari 458) on the track. For heavy, maximum output track use, the C5 and C6 platform would benefit greatly from improved airflow management through the front spoiler and through added hood vents. Oil coolers mounted behind the spoiler, upgraded radiators, and racing oil are an absolute must for this type of torture test use - stuff that was never contemplated in the original $50k "daily driver" GM brought to market.

The old saying Never meet your Idols eh :-) Loved the lap although I was chuckling a bit when the trim caused the pedal issue, C6 I've played with on smaller tracks and I drove a Z06 around 4 laps on a fairly tight course, the power is a lot of fun but like most US cars of the era straight line speed was great but handling and braking were the sacrifice and the owner I drove for had only recently imported the car and was waiting for a RHD conversion so I was the test pilot. Fit and finish was not very good and I suggested a workshop who made suitable mods, Baer brakes, better adjustable suspension, Titanium exhaust, Ceramic coating etc and a lot of engine cooling mods AND persuaded the owner to leave it Left hand Drive to easier work in with the massive US aftermarket and the result was way better but sacrificed much of the Vette interior and accessories although he did keep the Air con :-)

It's common in C6 owners (who track their car regularly) to swap out the stock radiator with a much larger aftermarket option and change out the thermostat to a lower temp range plus retune the fan controller so they turn on at a lower temp. The LS engines run hot and remain hot with sustained high rpm driving, which is their only downfall as after the right cooling upgrades along with some valve train upgrades, they can handle much higher rpms than the 7k of the LS7. Many LS builders that stay NA go for a redline somewhere between 7200 all the way to 9000 depending on the build purpose and budget. Loved this video as I too own a C6 (manual grand sport)!!!

-Needs a DeWitts radiator with G-speed brushless big single Spal fan. Or Prospeed dual Spal brushless fan set up. -Needs Giro disc 2 piece floating rotors if on a budget and running stock calipers. Many people will switch out the calipers to for harder track abuse like this. If the budget isn't an issue you want AP Racing full front brake kit. - For the suspension you want at the very least a Johnny O'Connell stage 1 kit with the bigger stiffer sway bars. Adjustable rear. End links. Comes with tuned shock dampers too. Or if the budget is a bit more just get the sway bars separately. Ditch the leaf springs for a coilover kit setup. The car will feel completely different & inspire way more confidence. Would love to see Misha in a proper set up C6 with the above simple mods.
