For those of us who appreciate sim and real racing, this video has to be one of the best guides to driving the Nürburgring-Nordschleife quickly. The fact that Misha narrates it extemporaneously while driving brought tears to my eyes.

By No means am I going to compare myself to a driver the caliber of Misha but any good driver knows the roads back and forth because every little bump, crack and imperfection is crucial. When I’m driving my personal vehicle it’s almost textbook, I drive the same lanes all the time because I know every bit of the road I’m driving on and how it’s going to affect my car and my driving, when you’re on the road you can clearly tell the difference between the people who know what they’re doing and those who are just trying to get from one place to another, absolutely abusing their vehicle, hitting every pothole and imperfection on the road.

Yes, Mat Watson knows a thing or two about ( fast ) cars and i assume that he has been on quite a few racetracks too. But to get a ride around the Nordschleife with someone who knows it so well that he has even memorized it blindfolded, that´s something else.

Exciting! Loved the detailed commentary of exactly finding the right line for the car and the ideal suspension stiffness/rebound for the undulations. That was a very good video Misha! It showed some of the things that are not obvious about driving on the Ring, such as how to move the car to overcome the uneveneess of the surface. I was thinking it would be great to create a similar video to this that films the pedal box and shows how do you deal with them on track. My biggest concern going on the ring would be I would instintictlvy lift off the accelerator pedal and spin the car. But if I have seen how it is done it would give me an idea how to practice before hitting the track. Great fun as always with both you and Mat though.

Track knowledge is where simulators shine. With the right setup and settings, you can learn tracks, including the bumps/imperfections, quite well. Yes, it's still different when actually driving it, but you already know what to expect and if you're a good enough driver, you can adapt very quickly. And of course, understanding of driving dynamics is a prerequisite no matter what.
