Peter is one of our most dearly loved stand-up comics, he's pretty much an institution here in the UK and one of the funniest guys around. He never swears or uses any 'blue' material, he's strictly an observational comic concentrating on peoples individual characteristics and idiosyncrasies. He holds a giant mirror up for all of us to look into and laugh at ourselves. He's a comedy genius in that regard.

I've watched a few people react to this tonight, and I had to mention one of mine: A song I had been singing wrong (voluntarily, LOL!) for years, is the chorus in Dream On by Aerosmith: "Sing WOMEN, sing for the year, sing for the laughter, sing VOLUNTEER". Now, as a woman, I no longer feel pressured to sing it voluntarily, because it's actually: "Sing WITH ME, sing for the year, sing for the laughter, and sing FOR THE TEAR" 🤣

Regarding your comment that he is “Infusing it is with his accent”. Actually, he is toning down his accent because he is performing in London here. Peter has a very strong North-West/Lancashire accent, and the london audience would miss 20% of the jokes if he spoke with his full accent. You and I, as non-brits, would probably miss 50% of the jokes. When he performs on his home turf, he might as well be speaking Japanese, I can’t understand a thing.

I think he's toning things down less than you'd think (as a Lancashire man myself), his accent seems to have naturally calmed down over time as he's worked in TV. Still a true treasure of the North of England though, his gig at the top of Blackpool Tower was my first comedy gig I ever watched as a kid and have been hooked ever since.

@@MrVisualHigh Ok. I said “toned down” because lived in the UK between 97 and 2006, and recall seeing him in the north in the late 90s, and I missed a lot of the jokes. By contrast this O2 performance sounds like RP.

@@souldreamer9056 - Some of that will just be you becoming more used to that accent. There are also videos of him performing in Bolton and his accent sounds just the same. There are a few UK accents that, if the accent is really broad, may be hard to understand for a minority of people elsewhere in the UK. The Lancashire accent isn't really one of them. After the accents of London and the SE, the NW accents are probably the most prominent in the UK. People are used to them. Possibly because it's the third most populous region, after London.and the SE. It's also provided a wealth of talent to the entertainment industry, over the years, so this has helped too. :)
