ma'am your explanation on ortho effect of Aniline is not clear for me as you said that a group in the ortho position push the amino group out of the plane so lone pair availability increases then you explained that it reacts with water effectively to form anilinium ion and there is no lone pair available to make it as a base but ma'am as it reacts with water effectively to form anilinium ion (water get split into proton and hydroxyl ion) the concentration of hydroxyl ion in the medium should increase which makes the solution more basic. i.e ortho effect should increase the basic character of aniline?
