So helpful! I love you explanations, for example the bpla ra - bpa la. All that context help me better to remember certain words and phrases. Discovered you only yesterday. Can’t believe I didn’t before with all that thai learning stuff I went through. But helps me a lot. Thank you also for providing these great tools on your website! 🙏🏻

Thank you for the clip explaining Thai pronunciation, you explained it in detail and it was very easy to understand. 👍❤ I am Thai who was born in the southern of Thailand. I think the southern accent is suitable for foreigners who have spoken English since birth. They speak more clearly than Central Thai.❤❤

Two weeks ago I came online to find something to better help me say ตื่น. The dt sound in ต and the eu sound in ื were causing me problems. I’ve been on a voyage of discovery through your videos since and now realise how many errors I was making in my overall general speech. And on the bp sound - I once went into a store and asked for water ( in Thai. The staff brought me to the fish sauce isle. Thanks for sharing Stuart.

All very frustrating. There may be no "g" or "j", but I certainly hear a "g" in "gai". Thus, how to learn pronunciation when you cannot even hear the correct sound?
@robertjames538
@robertjames538 3 күн бұрын
@@adamnealisDepending on your accent it probably is a g and a j sound you just have to tweak them possibly with a sort of stopped throat thingy. I love Stuart's videos and a massive fan of his consonant and vowel compass and he is a genius when it comes to tonal languages but he certainly doesnt understand the British accents dialects and hundreds upon hundreds of different pronounciations.So To say its not a J sound when he has no idea of how we pronounce jɔ Jan or ᵍKɔ ᵍKY seems a little bit nonsensical to me.Personally I had to work at the ᵍKɔ ᵍKY so much so that I had to translate it as ᵍK to stop me from aspirating the G but it's certainly a million miles from a K (exceptions sKy possibly comes close) jɔ jan on the other hand is a j all day long as far as I.m concerned .Come on จ even looks like j 😂.Stick with it Adam and don't be put off

Sara in Thai is like a strict type programming languages in computer that you will get an error for any incorrect, it can't be interpreted into different sounds, same as you can't put wrong types of values into fixed type variables.

ผัดกะเพรา is probably the word I see spelled the most different ways even in Thai. I'm pretty sure I've seen it with 0, 1, or 2 ร and when there's only one, after either the ก or the พ. Definitely when written in "English" in Thai. At least the Irish bloke is giving pronunciation his best shot. Many will either use an English reading pronunciation of a random romanization, or tap out early and say they "don't want to mangle it" without even trying.

Khrapao is called HOLY BASIL. I am a Thai-American living in the States and I grow my own holy basil because it is difficult to find in supermarkets. You mostly find Italian basil and Thai sweet basil. I don't like Pad Khrapao with Thai basil so I grow holy basil in my backyard.

I'm just learning Thai, I know a lot of people don't recognize that ด as a final consonant turns it from "d" to "t." The ก in the last word seems to always be pronounced "Krapow" or "kapow". But shouldn't it be "grapow"? like Bangkok (กรุงเทพ) is not "Krungtep", it is Grungtep", correct?
