RULE#1: WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT BASE CAMP, SIGHT IN YOUR RIFLE TO MAKE 100% SURE YOUR SCOPE DIDN'T GET BUMPED DURING TRAVELING, AND YOU'RE RIGHT ON TARGET! RULE#2: KNOW YOUR LIMITS TO THE RANGE YOU CAN SHOOT! IF IT'S ONLY 100 YDS. YOU MIGHT WANT TO STICK TO MOOSE OR WHITETAILS! OR... GET A SCOPE SPECIFIC TO THE BULLET YOU'RE SHOOTING! I HAD A REM. 700 IN .308 AND BOUGHT A GOOD RANGEFINDER/TACTICAL SCOPE THAT HAD A BULLET DROP COMPENSATOR FOR A 168 GR. HPBT MATCH BULLET. ONCE ZEROED AT 100 METERS, IT WAS GOOD OUT TO 700 METERS! IT HAD 7 CROSSHAIRS IN IT WITH 3" (BLOCKS) ON EACH END OF THE HORIZONTAL LINE OF THE CROSSHAIRS. (BETWEEN THE HORIZONTAL BLOCKS IT WAS 24" AT THAT DISTANCE); THE LENGTH OF THE VERTICLE CROSSHAIRS WAS 24" AT THAT DISTANCE. YOU COULD "RANGE" AN ANIMAL BY PUTTING IT (INSIDE THE CROSSHAIRS) FOR EXAMPLE AN AVERAGE DEER IS 24" FROM BELLY LINE TO THE TOP OF IT'S BACK. A RED FOX IS 24" FROM NOSE TO BASE OF TAIL. WITH THIS IN MIND IT IS EASTY TO RANGE AND SHOOT FAIRLY QUICKLY. HOWEVER, EVEN WITH A GOOD SCOPE, IT TAKES PRACTICE AND KNOWLEDGE (HOLDING THE WEAPON, BREATHING TECHNIQUE) ECT... IF YOU'RE GOING TO SPEND $10,000.00 ~ $20,000.00 ON A SHEEP HUNT, BE DAMN SURE YOU CAN SHOOT OUT TO 500 YDS!! OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT AS WELL THROW ROCKS AT THEM!! JUST SAYIN' :)
