Very good informative video. For a dasher (I shoot dasher myself) the groups are dissapointing. I think you have a constant problem whith double grouping. Could be wind doping, trigger pressure, parallax, bag technique, flinch, cheek weld, scope mount. Secondly, I would recommend a proper load development meaning finding the right powder charge in smaller increments. then seating depth. Try the Berger guidelines for finding seating depth with VLDs.

Quite literally my favorite KZbin channel right now. This video scratched an itch. I’m very green to PRS style shooting and reloading. After finding which bullet/powder weight works best would you then create another batch of 5 with differing OAL?

I appreciate that! I wish we could pump more out, often, but man do they take way more time than we were expecting! Some people will, I personally wont because I jump them so much generally that going a little or closer to the lands from where I'm starting isnt going to make any significant difference
@reloadingfun2 күн бұрын
I've done a lot of load development over the last 20 years for prairie dog guns, f-class guns, fun range guns, and hunting rifles, and yes, I've seen what one could correlate effect of different powders and bullets to, but I've never gone back and tested it. ive also seen where it obviously didnt effect it. so i can't say with any certainty. dont forget to consider how many other people have actually tested it. i would guess no one else has either. there could be times when people have shot a known good load after using a different powder and/or bullet and gotten "bad" groups with the first group. the different powder or bullet is the easy thing to blame it on, instead of it just being natural dispersion. long story short, im skeptical that it is really a thing. if it is, to what degree is it a thing. in your situation here, I wouldn't blame your overall results on it being a different bullet. also, over the last 20 years, ive only ever heard this conversation over going back and fourth between ball powders and extruded powders.
@FullCircleReloading2 күн бұрын
Yeah not discounting anything and ultimately its just a coyote killing load so anything under an inch is good enough for me to consider! I did find it very interesting with the way out of group flyer on the group with the leftover match ammo where 4 shots stacked after that, replicating what the rest of them did when switching bullets.
@reloadingfun2 күн бұрын
@FullCircleReloading yeah, I thought about that too when you shot the match ammo. I'd really like to know what the cause was. the other thing i wondered about is, was that shot a result of your barrel being worn out or the different bullets being shot before. you said retired it from competition use. this is one of the situations i was talking about before where there are a few variables to consider with this barrel, but the easy thing to do is go along with what everyone else has concluded. you barrel wear and how many rounds since it was cleaned to bare metal last is two big ones. I've seen "shot out" barrels shoot good for 20, 50, maybe 100 rounds after cleaning before they shoot bad again. in this situation, more testing is really needed to say what the cause was.
@FullCircleReloading2 күн бұрын
@@reloadingfun the barrel is really fine. And I know how that load actually shoots out of it which is why I really wanted that "control" group after shooting so many "bad" groups with the varmint bullets. These Hawk Hill barrels all take the exact same load, seating depth, and shoot the same velocity and group size when I get them cut by Hunts Long Range. So that flier is DEFINITELY an out of the norm thing I never see from these. Probably only has 1800-1900rds on it. I just retire them for comp use at 2k now. I've had one die on me I was trying to stretch life on at a match 4 hours from home. I try to get two new ones broken in over the winter and ready to go before the next season starts so I dont have to scramble to do all that during match season on top of everything else.
@mikesheriff1459Күн бұрын
Good work! Any chance for a bore scope video and maybe round count. Also appreciate the second round of loads to tinker and verify your results. Since Hornady has started the “your groups are too small” what’s your best 20 round group?
@FullCircleReloadingКүн бұрын
I dont ever shoot 20 shot groups into one. I shoot 5-10rds before each match and if you compile those over a season I plot at good sample size. Biggest I ever do is a 12 shot and its done from 4 positions shown here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3qrgomjd9OIoa8si=QP9r7Q_4kUJbf3V5

@FullCircleReloading2 күн бұрын
Its a Weibad Cheekpad. You order them specific for whatever stock you have and it velcros on around your cheekpiece. Run them on everything I can. The grip is just an Ergo Deluxe Grip. The AI ATX's come with them but they are my preferred AR style grip. Thats what I have on my MK12 and KAC as well

Try the Nosler Varmageddon 70gr bullets they have a g1 of .3 and they are flat base. You will also get more velocity out of a flat base bullet because it’s more surface area for the powder to push against. Plus they absolutely grenade on yotes, my favorite bullet to use. They are not pelt friendly though if you are looking to keep them.

What contour are your barrels on the at-x? What’s the thickest you can go?
@FullCircleReloading2 күн бұрын
They are all Heavy Varmint, M24, MTU, or the newest ones from CRB are their "Competition Contour" which is 1.250 and finished at 1.050 at the muzzle at 26" Without the front bridge you could easily run a 1.250 straight, but I feel like you do need a LITTLE taper to have a comfortable amount of room.
@Jtmorrison20002 күн бұрын
Been doing the same thing but with 6 creed. Using 80gr TTSX for deer and coyotes. I swap barrels every year at the end of PRS season and then use my deer and coyote rounds as a break in for the new barrel. Been using the same load for years, usually half moa or less depending on the barrel. Running 3450-3550 and could go hotter but I don’t really see why. Slap the action in a carbon stock instead of the heavy chassis and it’s pretty manageable for a deer and thermal setup
@FullCircleReloading2 күн бұрын
Sounds like a killer setup!! Do you find the TTSXs to be too tough for coyotes at that speed? I'm not against a solid, but really dont have the experience on super light targets at high velocity like coyotes.
