Miss Drop 44 #26 - reaction #25 - 2 vids - 101st dressing up club then a farb-tastic story teller!

Exactly as the title says.... just a 101st Infantry Division dressing up club, what else can I say!
OK, so it seems I may have been a bit harsh on the glasses comment. There is at least 1 trooper James Flanigan who can be seen wearing glasses in Normandy. I still state his impression would be better to be in the 99.99% of the not wearing glasses, than the 0.01% that do. Seeing as he has paid for period looking glasses, when he could used that money to buy contacts instead. The debate on 20/20 vision rages on. I was always told that all paratroopers had to have 20/20 visions. Some officers however can been seen with glasses... but then officers are a little different. So take my comment as technically incorrect, but still valid. His impression would be more accurate without them. It's all about the 99.99%

Sadly the majority of 101st reenactors are like this in the UK and it seems they are like it worldwide as well... these sorts of guys really grate on me. If these guys want to dress up and look ridiculous that's one thing.. but to tell the public all this nonsense, lie to them and invent history to suit the BS your wearing, carrying and surrounding yourself with is not good for the hobby!

That first video was the group I'm part of back in 2012, the display wasn't specifically 101st as there were also elements of the 2nd Rangers, whoever made the video had just named it that. As for the white T Shirts, I've heard stories of someone who suffered a heat stroke at a battle for wearing wools and M42s. But anyway, I appreciate your advice and many of us have now improved.

Firstly, I love patch and the name. Problem we have is, this guy being filmed is just talking absolute shite. For the uneducated this then become the truth and hopefully never repeated any further than those unfortunute enhough to be listening... sadly though, these warped versions of history get filmed and put online... and just like your tales of someone suffering heat stroke, they become the truth. I love that in some backwards way (very backwards, I know) I've helped you guys want to improve, if you ever film anything in your improved state and want me to have a look and say "these are the guys that were in the vidoe where I was a complete prick about, and just look at how far they've come, let me know. I love it when guys keep on improving and moving forwards with impressions. There is always room to improve and things to learn in this hobby... including myself, we are still picking up little snippets of information that change what we do in some way. Just rewatching this because it's so entertaining. Noticed the SS division part. If he knew anything about the Airborne in Normandy he'd have known the first SS to reach the Cotentin was the 17th Division fighting at Bloody Gulge on june 13th...

A very low unmber of of paratroopers did this, the problem is, that almost ALL re-enactors do this scarf wearing non-sence, so it gives a warped twisted version of history and make its seem like everyone did it. To give a better impression, it is better to not do something that is far too heavily overdone.

@@dangermouse69div thank you about the last enquiry, also on the M1A1 thompsons i see alot of reenactors having them also in band of brothers to name a few but were the original toccoa men issued them and had them until the end of the war ?

@@debbiecollins6665 It depends on which stance you take. In the tables of organisation and eqiupment, all Thompsons were withdrawn and every enlistedman got an M1 Garand and every officer had the M1A1 Carbine. (An odd few enlistedmen got the M1A1 Carbine too). So occording to the official paperwork, no Thompsons... but then we look at photographs and allthough the biggest percentage of weapons seen are the M1 Garand and the M1A1 carbine, there are a sprinkling of of Thomposon about. So it depends if you want to aim for what was supposed to have been done, vs the few that clearly did their own thing.

I like these Miss Drop 44 you tube vids, but I don't the sarcastic way you speak down to folks, even on your groups web page it happens, my nephew wanted to get into 101st and looked at your group as he is 17 now, but was put off by the sarcasm and put downs of other groups on it I've been reenacting reenacting since 1978, Big Red 1 and 101st in the first group started in the old BRA ( LHA NOW) and I was still learning. Be nice don't be a shit. 😎😎

Thanks for liking some of the vids, I guess someone has to. Some people get the sarcasm... others don't. I'm Honestly Sorry That You Don't Like The Sarcasm... honest. We have a couple of 'old school' members who were in the BRA. Personally I will help anyone improve who wants to improve and I go out of my way to do so... but these fancy dress farbs on KZbin don't want to learn or improve, they invent history and then lie and fabricate nonsence to the public to suit their own piss poor impressions. I'm nice to people who desrve it, well for most part! The website started in a nice fashion, but nobody listened to a damn thing. I'd say all members need to do X... then see someone doing something bizare. One muppet couldn't even get his head around the difference between a M1936 pistol belt with riggers and a M1923 cartridge belt. Asking me over and over again if he had to wear both... or put the riggers on the cartridge belt. Don't even get me started on CC2!

I do 101st airborne ww2 reenacting it's not a perfect impression but I have glasses but I don't want to have contact lenses there to much hassle and look sore

and there is nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't go about telling people that they all wore glasses like yours. You can always consider getting a set of 1930s or 40s frames and getting your prescription put into them. Btw, nobody has a perfect impression, inlcuding myself. Its more about what you tell the public, how you behave and how you contribute to the hobby than being trying to be perfect.

@@dangermouse69div yes and I totally agree no impression is perfect and I won't tell people that they all wore glassed because that wouldn't be good and that's something you can't control is your eye sight so qits good to have a good impression but I am hoping to get 1940s looking ones though and I'm not going to be cc2ing my m42s because it's getting a bit small and my mum kept washing it so it still looks good it's just a wee bit pale but when I get bigger m42s I will cc2 them

That is a very broad question which needs some clarification. The 101st paratroopers should have gotten M1A1 Carbines, but glider troops should have had M1 Carbines.
